Mid-century Style Family Home with Garden + Pool
Description
Experience the unmissable Cape Winelands in this mid-century, Bauhaus-inspired family home. Complete with tasteful furnishings, but still a cosy place to relax and unwind, this home is the perfect fit for the creative type. Featuring a beautifully established garden with space ideal for outdoor dining under the canopy of a white stinkwood tree (indigenous to SA), as well as boasting a large pool, this home epitomises South African summer! Warm and welcoming in winter, with two indoor fireplaces. The space Welcome to The Copper Bauhaus! Named as such for its mid-century design and distinctive 1950s copper fireplace, we have been living in this family home for over twenty years. Built in the 1950s, this house is one of many in the suburb of Dalsig that features Bauhaus-inspired elements, thanks to its architect, Pius Pahl – a German-born designer who studied at the renowned Bauhaus School until its closure in 1933. After immigrating to South Africa in 1952 with his South African-born wife, Pahl established his own architectural practice in Stellenbosch, where he designed numerous homes throughout this very suburb of Dalsig. These two elements – our iconic fireplace and the evident Bauhaus flavour – are what inspired us to name our home The Copper Bauhaus as a tribute to Pahl's architectural influence. With Pahl’s vision, the house displays true mid-century stylizations throughout, from its large windows and generous overhangs to the mature bougainvillea shrubs (which are over 50 years old!) and the crazy slate paving. These elements combine to create a harmonious yet lively atmosphere, making this house a true joy to live in over the past two decades. But this is precisely the point: far from being a museum artifact, pristine and kept at bay, this mid-century modern house is completely the opposite. Instead, it is a home – comfortable, inviting, full of fun and fascination. It is with the storied history of the house in mind that we have created a place that celebrates the quirky, revels in the peculiar, and delights in the details. Now, we invite you to share in our home’s unique charm. We hope the love we have for this house shines through during your stay. Sit back, relax, and take in all the colourful goodness The Copper Bauhaus has to offer. Guest access The entire house is available for guests, except the garage with an inter-leading room. Other things to note Kindly note that our home is a no-shoe zone. We’ve kept things comfy and clean underfoot, so we ask that shoes be left in one of the two entrance halls. Feel free to bring your favourite slippers or cosy socks – your feet will thank you! Our home also comes complete with three cruiser bicycles (refurbished Matie bikes) conveniently fitted with front baskets for groceries, making them the perfect mode of transport for that quick nip into town (under a kilometre away!)
