Description
The Sage Hut is a traditional well-insulated structure set on a sturdy all-metal chassis and wheels. Double glazed windows & bed are new this year making it even more warm and cosy. It enjoys lovely views to the south with its own peaceful small yard/garden & private car parking space. It enjoys mains electricity, hot & cold water; the shower/loo is approx 25m away . There is a guest fridge and microwave in the stable block. The woodburning stove is highly efficient. Continental breakfast. The space The hut which incorporates kitchenette (please note no hob or oven) , woodburner, table & chairs, double bed with cushions for day bed seating, underbed storage, solid oak floors and patio furniture/barbq is for exclusive use of guests as is the shower/loo approx 25 metres away. One or two horses are usually in quite close proximity, either in the adjoining field or in their stables. There is a fridge, microwave oven and barbecue available if required. Tea, coffee and continental breakfast is supplied (it would be appreciated if you could indicate in advance if this isn't required or any special requests like gluten free bread). . An information pack gives details of helpful local attractions, eateries, pubs and shops. We are situated in wonderful countryside, where a range of wildlife can be enjoyed. The stream which runs through the field is a tributary to the River Usk and is a designated an SSSI. Exciting last year was the arrival of a pair of nesting young osprey. The nest viewing point is from the canal towpath just a short scenic walk away. There are good walks from the door as well as the iconic more adventurous ones nearby. The picturesque Brecon and Monmouth Canal is just a field away and the stunning Talybont Reservoir complete with a range of walks through forestry and waterfalls is just 3 miles away. Guest access Directions: The Sage Hut is at The Mill House, Pencelli - 1st stone fronted detached house on R as you come into village on B4558 from the Brecon end. Obviously last on L coming the other way - past the Royal Oak pub on your L, round a sharp bend + approx 300 metres. ///flipping.vehicle.feasting Talybont on Usk is just 2 miles to the east and the market town of Brecon is 4 miles to the west. Please bear in mind that there are no street lights in parts of Pencelli which can be problematic particularly in winter. Hi viz and torches are advised if planning to walk the 400 m to or from the local pub after dark. The bus stop is also next to the pub - service links Abergavenny to Brecon. Other things to note Good village pub with canalside beer garden. Lovely canal walks on the doorstep in addition to all the iconic hill paths. Horseriding, boating, fishing, festivals (Hay Literary in May and November, Abergavenny Food in September), shows (Royal Welsh in July), Brecon Theatre, Brecon Cinema, book shops, independent coffee/tea shops, markets (Brecon Tue & Fri; Abergavenny Tue, Hay-on-wye Thu). Great wildlife opportunities! Of special note last year (2024) was the arrival of a nesting pair of young osprey, the most southerly in Wales. The nest viewing point can be viewed from the canal towpath between Pencelli and Talybont-on-Usk. More details on the Usk Valley Ospreys website.
