At « SHANGRI-LARA », a secluded off-grid haven of Moorish origin, you are truly away from it all. One can literally hear the silence. The view from the terrace across the Mediterranean is spectacular. Yet, 15 minutes away, you may enjoy the beach and the small town of Castell de Ferro. « SHANGRI-LARA » is conveniently situated for many varied day trips. Pets are welcome and can even stay in our kennels while you go out or sightseeing. From Málaga you reach us via motorway A-7 in about one hour. The space « SHANGRI-LARA » is a one-of-a-kind 'Cortijo', or country estate, on the Costa Tropical. Dating back to the Moorish times, about 1,300 years ago, it features a unique architecture and atmosphere. Located just 10 kilometres off the coast, at 500 metres elevation, the view from the terrace across the Mediterranean is spectacular. The night sky enchants with a sensational sparkle, undiluted by any light pollution. Here, you are truly away from it all. One can literally hear the silence. Guest access Malagueña is one of three individual accommodations we offer to our guests at « SHANGRI-LARA »: A private, 15 sqm, split-level double room featuring a cosy sleeping nook on its upper floor, with comfy new beds which can be arranged as a huge king-size double, definitely a great hideaway for a couple, or as two single beds for two individuals. You decide and let us know. The room has a closet with hangers, two chairs, shelves and a little desk, one window looking out on the ancient Patio, and you are also getting some afternoon sun through another west-facing window. From Malagueña you enter our spacious common room for guests, The Lounge, with an open-plan kitchenette, large dinner table, fridge, toaster, microwave, and washing machine. There is also a shared bathroom with toilet and shower, and you have access to a south-facing terrace with a canopied dinner table and a splendid view. A small BBQ is ready for your use. Free and fast 20MB WiFi is constantly available. Fans are provided for the summer, gas and electric heaters for the winter months. During your stay « SHANGRI-LARA » welcomes people of all nationalities, backgrounds, and orientations! We are “everybody-friendly”, that's right. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ As we live next door, we are on-hand should you require our assistance or advice. We are attentive to every guest and will make you feel at home, but absolutely respect your privacy if you are on a romantic getaway or come here to meditate, and only look for undisturbed quiet and rest. However, we do speak English, German, and Spanish, have a sense of humour, and are pretty good listeners too. Other things to note CHILDREN Babies and infants, naturally under their parents' close supervision, are most welcome at « SHANGRI-LARA »! We excluded age 2-12 from the official listing only because we consider our estate not safe enough for children at any "wild" age (above infancy) that might be more difficult to watch — this property is really large with steep hillsides and many slopes and could inspire a curious young mind, if left unattended, to carelessly explore the area on its own and fall off a cliff. We simply do not want the responsibility for that! However, each child (and parenthood) is different and you know best what yours is like. You can contact us and share some details to check what's suitable on an individual level. PETS Pets, if healthy and vaccinated, are welcome at « SHANGRI-LARA » too! We have our own pack of three well-behaved dogs that guard the property at night (for your safe sleep as we are in a secluded location) yet are friendly to guests without being bothersome, plus one cute cat (that mostly cares about herself and doesn't have a job). If you bring along your own darling, he/she can even stay in our supervised kennels if you should want to go on a relaxed day trip on your own, as not all dogs are crazy about shopping, let alone permitted at certain sightseeings. We will feed and walk your dog in your absence, so you can enjoy yourself anywhere you go without having to worry. If you are into cats, mind you...we have a safe cattery room as well. OFF-GRID LIFE « SHANGRI-LARA » is a 100% off-grid country estate, i.e., we are fully solar-powered (220~230V), dispose of our garbage at best practice available, and have our own natural spring and a clean water reservoir. As water shortages are a common occurrence in warm climates like southern Spain, we are conscious about resources and encourage their responsible use. We hope you appreciate this friendly reminder and do share our notion! Living off-grid has been a lifestyle decision for us, towards gaining more independence and a deeper sense of awareness, and we are happy to share some ideas and our little knowledge if someone is interested.
