Montemassi is the Medieval hamlet painted in the famous fresco of 1330 by Simone Martini, entitled “Guidoriccio da Fogliano conquering Montemassi” and preserved in the town hall of Siena. This picturesque village is in the heart of the most stunning area of Tuscan Maremma, in a privileged position, 300 meters height above sea level, only few kilometres far from the sea and from the Tuscan archipelago, which you can see from the house windows. After a passionate restoration, with a philological search of original materials it came back to its real essence: historical materials meet pieces of Nature. Spurs of rock enter the bathroom and the sitting rooms melting into glass tiles and medieval bricks of the floor The studio, at the ground floor of the 13th century house, is a 50sqm openspace that stays just behind the principal Church of the village. Stone, bricks, wooden beams. Nicely decorated with a cocktail of antiques and design accessories. Spaces are visually separated by olives’ crop ladders, marked with the initials of the old family Cinughi de Pazzi, Lords of the territory for centuries. Outside a tiny wooden platform where you can enjoy a romantic coffee or aperitif for two,bistrot style. Guest access The little village is fantastic, but being a medieval hilly site it offers us small stoned alleys and stairs to get to the house. Therefore, no parkinglot in front of the flat or swimming pool outdoor:) You should park 200 meters away and enjoy a little walk. No high heels (keep them in your car:) )). You definetely need a car to get around: bus services are really poor in the area. Other things to note It is hard to find words to describe the Tuscan Maremma; you should experience it in order to be taken under its spell, to feel the effects of its atmosphere and to fully relish its harmony and its deriving sense of freedom.
 The wonderful Tuscan coast is only 30 km away. Its climate is marvellously mild almost all year long.
Moreover, the village is near to the most famous old town centres in Tuscany (Siena, Massa Marittima, Val d’Orcia) 
Montemassi is surrounded by a wild and unspoilt landscape, a real paradise for trekking lovers and for those who enjoy riding horses or bikes.
Other environmental heritage lies in the surroundings: Uccellina nature reserve, with its moving landscape; Monterotondo geothermal park and the abstract appearance of its fumes/vapours emerging from the heart of the ground; the famous boraciferous geysers and the Amiata Vulcan surrounded by the biggest beechwood in Italy, just to mention a few.
This land is also the ideal destination for those who seek for a peaceful holiday in the countryside, enjoying wine and food; in fact, in the aerea you have a vast choice of famous wineries, vineyards where you can enjoy delicious tastings of wine and local typical food: Muralia. Le Mortelle, la Rocca di Frassinello, Petra and so many others All these different possibilities are between 6 and 50 km from Montemassi village.
Everywhere you can taste the excellent Mediterranean cuisine, inspired by the olive oil and the sheep milk cheeses. From mushrooms and truffles to fowl and fish, many are the restaurants and the agritourisms around the area.
And then you can relax to the spa: Petriolo, Saturnia, Sorano or you can have a swim in the Accesa lake, which is mysterious, fairy-like and inexplicably turquoise.
