Comfortable Bedroom in Observatory - 1 or 2 people

Our spacious bedroom is cosy and comfortable and we would love to welcome you to our home in the trendy and central Observatory (Obs) neighborhood in Cape Town. There are shops, restaurants, bars and entertainment within a few minutes from our home. It is ideal for students or business people visiting Cape Town. We are conveniently situated near Groote Schuur Hospital and the University of Cape Town (UCT) and our home is quiet, safe, secure, and within walking distance from train and bus routes. The space The bedroom is most comfortable for 1 person who wishes to stay short or long term and best for accommodating 2 people for shorter stays. Please make sure to book any additional people who will be staying. Enjoy the extra space and comfort of a queen-sized bed with a medium-firm orthopedic mattress for individuals weighing up to 150 kg. The room has a TV, air conditioner, study desk with power plug points and USB ports for charging phones, laptops etc., a clothing cupboard with ample space, and bedside cupboards for extra storage. Wi-fi is included and we’ll share the password with you upon arrival. We have back-up power supply during electricity load shedding using a battery-charged power station to run wi-fi and other essentials should you need to work online. From the room you have direct access to the lounge, kitchen and dining room which leads out to a colourful courtyard of flowers, a built-in brick fireplace and views of Devil's Peak, to the side of Table Mountain. We often make a fire in summer in our outdoor brick barbeque and enjoy a 'bring & braai'. In winter we'll get cosy around an indoor fire in the lounge to have a chat, play chess, board/card games or watch TV. You are always welcome to join us :-) Built in 1920, in the Victorian style, the house has wooden floors throughout, and a cottage feel with beautiful stained glass windows at the front entrance. You will share our happy home, including the spacious bathroom, with two professional people. The bathroom has a standard bath and a big double walk-in shower tiled with quarry slate. Both the bath and shower have convenient hand shower attachments. There are many windows in the bathroom looking out to the blue skies, trees and leafy hedges around the house. Our home is clean and neat and our domestic worker, Monica is very reliable, trustworthy and thorough. We have an automatic washing machine and clothes dryer which you can use to do reasonable amounts of your own laundry. Please note that for very long stays a housekeeping fee will be charged. FOOD AND DRINKS Please note that food and drinks are not included in the stay. We'll provide space in the kitchen and fridge/freezer for storing and preparing your meals. You also have the option to order takeaway food for home delivery using the app services of Mr Delivery or Uber Eats. They usually deliver within an hour. Other than enjoying a shopping trip out to the nearby Riverlands Mall (Checkers and Woolworths for groceries), stores also offer home delivery of a great variety of fresh fruit, vegetables, meat, bread, coffee, toiletries, alcohol, etc. Basically anything you would need... by downloading their apps: Pick'nPay asap, Checkers Sixty60 and Woolies Dash. If you like, we can discuss sharing and contributing to food and taking turns to cook. The usual kitchen equipment is available such as an airfryer, microwave oven, stove with oven, kettle, coffee machine, etc. We have a dishwasher that we will give you instructions on how to use if necessary. SAFETY AND SECURITY We have made sure that our house is a safe place to be. There are non-intrusive CCTV cameras and security fencing around the house. We are signed up with an Armed Response Security Company (ADT) that monitors the house alarm and will respond in case of emergency. For the duration of your stay, you will be supplied with a set of keys and a panic button. There is a Safety Card in your bedroom with general information and emergency contact details. PARKING On-street/pavement parking space is available for 1-2 vehicles in front of the house. LOCK-UP SAFE Please request a safe for locking away valuables should you need one. Guest access All rooms are accessible except the office and our bedroom. If we invite you into the office for a chat you are most welcome. At any other time we would appreciate it if you do not enter the office on your own. During your stay We are available at any time. Please feel free to chat to us about anything. We love people and often invite our guests to join us for a drink and a chat. If you need quiet time that's okay with us, we respect your space. Please note that we do not allow any sleepovers of guests' partners, friends or family who have not been formally booked in with us through Airbnb. The room may be booked for two people as per our listing prices given for additional guests. Short notice of an un-booked guest will not be accepted, so please make sure to let us know a few days in advance and book your additional guest on Airbnb. We look forward to meeting you! Other things to note Please note that we are smokers but do so considerately and never in the guest room. We smoke IQOS products In our office and the lounge and only smoke real cigarettes outside. All rooms are well ventilated at all times with a lovely breeze moving through the house.
