Incredible jungle experience 10km from the city centre, staying and dining with English host and Lao hostess (born-in-a-cave daughter of revolutionary aide to the Red Prince) immersed in Lao history, amazing house, beautiful garden, sublime pool The house is surrounded by jungle and sits atop a pond (currently - January 2016 - under maintenance). The most frequent expression from guests as they enter is ‘Wow’. It has the wow factor. The house is spacious, with three bedrooms (two of which are available to guests) and is linked to the outdoors by the deck over the pond and the outside gallery upstairs, running the length of the house and fringed with orchids. The guest rooms under this listing comprise a double-bedded room, a day room with couch and a private bathroom. Please note that there are two additional rooms available - a twin and a double, each with en-suite bathroom - in the separate Jungle House-Cottage listing. Guests can go everywhere, but are asked to respect the privacy of the host's and hostess’ suite and of other guests. The garden is also fully accessible: there are two other residences in the grounds - Jungle Lodge and Jungle Cottage which are not accessible when occupied. Mike, your host, will collect you from your point of arrival in Vientiane, will guide you in the city if desired, and, along with his wife, Xoukiet, will share pre-dinner drinks with you on the deck and will dine with you. You will be expected to live as an integral part of the household. We are 10km out of the city centre, in a rural village with two beautiful Wats (temples) and friendly neighbours. The village is developing as a residential area, but density is very low and natural vegetation still predominates, especially in our garden! This is still a very peaceful area, with the main sounds the noise of the birds, cicadas, waterfall, etc - as everywhere, there are cocks crowing and dogs occasionally barking. We provide one trip into town and back per day, if desired, at a time to suit you. It may be with our vehicle (Toyota double-cab pick-up) or with a locally-owned tuk-tuk, a taxi or a minivan. Depending on time of day, expect the trip to take 30 minutes in each direction. We do not offer trips in and out of town in the evenings: drinks are served at 1800 hours and dinner at 1900 hours, and this precludes us driving in and out of town. Our intention is to provide a complete experience - living, local transport, relaxing, drinking, eating, in one all-inclusive price - there are no extras, unless you want to come and go several times to the town. We feel we have succeeded when departing guests say that they felt they were received, and stayed, as friends.
