Description

Located in Churchaven in the West Coast National Park, on the edge of the Langebaan Lagoon, Samphire Cottage is an idyllic getaway a mere 120km from Cape Town. Conveniently, the cottage is just a few steps away from a pristine white sandy beach, a glistening warm lagoon and rich salt marsh wetlands. Living off-the-grid, it is here that you can completely unwind. The space The cottage is modelled in traditional West Coast architecture, with simple and comfortable styling. The open plan living room and kitchen open onto a verandah and courtyard, which leads to the 3 bedrooms. There is a cosy indoor fireplace for Winter nights. This is a well-loved family home, a secret escape, living off-the-grid where the sensitivity of water scarcity and solar energy needs to be respected. Due to the solar system, NO appliances with heating elements are allowed, the fridge runs off the solar and the oven and stove are gas appliances. There is no dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer, electric toaster (gas stove toaster supplied) or coffee machine (coffee plunger supplied). NO hairdryers or hair straighteners may be plugged in as these may cause permanent damage to the electrical system. Only mobile phones and laptops may be charged. Guest access Entire property is for guests' use. Other things to note Our cottage is situated within the West Coast National Park. There is a per person charge at the entrance gate. Guests arriving between September and March will need to enter the gate before 18.30. Guests arriving between April to August will need to enter before 17.30. The gates close after these times and no entrance will be allowed until the following morning. No dogs or pets are allowed into the West Coast National Park. For weekend bookings we do allow a late afternoon check out on the Sunday. Please remember that because the house runs off the grid, all of our systems are delicate and need to be treated with the utmost care. This includes water usage from the borehole and electricity from the solar. Only mobile phone chargers and laptops may be charged. There is no TV (only on request), DVD or CD player. It is very important to note that nothing may be flushed down the toilets except 1 x ply toilet paper, this is a biolytic system and very sensitive. Absolutely no tampons, sanitary products, condoms, baby nappies, tissues, cotton balls or ear buds may be flushed.
