The Peacocks Lounge - Our signature stairway to The Peacocks Lounge leads to a space where you can have breakfast to birdsong and monkeys frolicking in the avocado tree or watch the news and a sports game. Enjoy sundowner cocktail time savoring cooling cross-breezes while looking out over verdant rice paddy fields to the sounds of peacocks cawing on the roof. We have an exclusive soundtrack for this space curated by a leading writer and jazz expert. The Pool Garden Oasis - The newly designed pool area invites relaxation, intimate outdoor dining and a place to celebrate those special occasions with a small group of friends and family. The oversized day sofas, ample pool and curated garden provide an exclusive sensory oasis. Smoking is not permitted inside the house. Parking is free. You and your group have the entire house to enjoy. Guests will be welcomed by our wonderful House Manager Sathish who will also help guests settle in and give advice on local dining, activities and attractions. Guests may choose to have as much or as little interaction with the staff according to their preference. There are two houseboys to attend to all housekeeping duties. The tranquil community of Mihiripenna, characterised by lush greenery, large mature trees and paddy fields offers convenience and a range of activities for all ages and interests. The Why House boutique hotel is close by and Skylight House guests can arrange to either enjoy a gourmet meal there or order meals from the catering menu to be delivered to the house. Wijaya Beach, a popular restaurant/ bar serving delicious wood fired pizzas on the beach is less than 5 minutes away. Nearby Sri Gemunu Hotel serves delicious authentic Sri Lankan curries and enjoys a perfect location at the signature rock promontory on the beach. You may wish to rent a daybed there for a small fee as 'base camp' for the day to enjoy the fresh sea breezes underneath swaying palms. Unawatuna Beach with a wide choice of restaurants and bars is 10 minutes away, including the well-established Kingfisher seafood Restaurant. Secret Garden, a unique property specialises in yoga classes in their yoga dome. If you would like a superb Ayurvedic or other type of massage, The Sanctuary Spa is the place to go! On the way to Galle Fort, if you like history, Nooit Gedache Heritage Hotel, built in 1735 as the then-Dutch Governor's country house, is not to be missed as a destination venue for a meal or special occasion with your group. You can even walk to Jungle Beach from the property in 45 minutes! UNESCO Heritage Site Galle Fort is just a further 10 minutes away. All by tuk-tuk and all can be arranged by Sathish. Tuk-tuks are best for local transport and easily arranged by House Manager Sathish. We are an animal-friendly house. The extraordinarily lush and pristine surroundings as well as local religions allow guests to experience 'up close' a variety of wild neighbours and visitors. The near-by Dog Care Clinic does amazing work to rescue and help Sri Lanka's stray dog population. You will sometimes see very friendly dogs wandering around outside the gated area that are docile, vaccinated and neutered, and well-fed by the clinic. Please do not encourage them to come inside the compound, or feed them. They are well looked after. There are wild animals that on occasion enjoy the rooftop of Skylight House due to its lovely height. Don't worry if you hear something go 'bump in the night' on the roof. It's either a monitor lizard in the roof drain, a peacock, or possibly macaques on a late night foraging campaign in the banana trees next door.
