Description
Pretty little cottage, fully equipped, heating included, sharing our tennis court, pool, 'pitch & chip' golf, set in our 20 acre garden of undulating grass and wild flower filled meadows, edged by copses where nightingales nest every year and sing all night long. In July/Aug we offer 2 breakfasts and a 4-course menu (sometimes in the freezer) with carafe of wine for every 7 nights booked [No obligation]. Country walks, gorgeous local village, Grand Brassac. Cosy, rustic, peaceful, 360º views. The space No-one quite knows the age of the various bits of our ancient farmstead, certainly several hundred years. The limestones, picked out of the surrounding fields and used to build our one metre thick walls, are of course millions of years old - and some have perfectly intact sea shells within them - but the ancient oak timbers, visible in the ceilings in all the rooms, and the cut stones of the windows and fireplace, have been recycled many times over the centuries. Our farmhouse and cottage stand in the middle of our own land comprising 22 acres of gardens - which have wonderful 360º views - rolling meadows, a pine, oak and sweet chestnut forest and farmed land full of sun flowers, wheat and corn. We have been here for many years and have tried not to change the intrinsic character that we inherited, keeping as many features as possible as they were when it was a very, very, simple farmhouse. Our guest house is the small little cottage which fell down around the millenium and we have now restored in the old way, recycling old materials and even picking the stones out of the surrounding fields ourselves to build the bath and shower room which is adjacent to the double bedroom. Our aim in the coming years to be become as eco-sustainable as possible, digging a lake to collect all the water from our many rooves and adding solar power when that option is genuinely affordable. Family and friends come for holidays throughout the year and so we have a range of activities which are what we call "Extreme" version of various sports because they are not perfectly manicured in our hot climate but fun versions that we congregate around to have fun and socialise: croquet, with "The Hole on the Hill", our 9 hole "Pitch and Chip" Golf and then more traditionally, table Tennis, darts and of course, the tennis court with fabulous views. We have two wire-haired dachshunds who use our private garden and do not use your privtae garden area or the communal garden, pool and tennis court areas. Watching the sun set and the moon and starry night sky rise - we have near zero light polution - are blissful focal points for enjoyment but if the weather is wet or there's an incoming thunderstorm, which is quite possible in the Bordeaux region, then there's a wood burner in the ancient cut stone fireplace, where you can play games and read or just watch a movie. There's a smart TV box connected to the TV in the cottage. We hope the many photos we have posted give a good idea of the rustic appeal of our homestead to which we will give you a warm welcome. Guest access You have exclusive use of the fully equipped cottage including: Wifi. TV. Smart TV box connected to the TV. Netflix, Amazon Prime + French and UK free to air You have access to the gardens around the cottage where there are private areas just for you and you will share the tennis court, swimming pool, 9 hole 'Extreme Pitch and Chip' Golf, ping pong, badminton, croquet etc with David and Jo and other guests who are sometimes visiting in the main house opposite the cottage (35m away) where David and Jo live. We will generally be in residence but we might be on our travels, in which case we will have arranged for friends to host during your stay. Other things to note The weather in the Dordogne is typically warm and hot with plenty of sunshine hours. That's not to say it never rains - the thunderstorms can be spectacular. Average monthly temperatures are as follows : Jan: 7° Feb: 9° Mar: 12° Apr: 17° May: 22° Jun: 25° Jul: 27°Aug: 27°Sep: 24° Oct: 16° Nov: 10° Dec: 8° c As we are in a very rural setting we occasionally get visits from field mice. We are scrupulous about keeping them away but sometimes one will get through. On a similar note, as you can see from the pictures it is an old oak and stone building, so even though it is cleaned thoroughly after every guest, the appearance is not one of pristine perfection such as you would get in a modern house or 'villa', and there will might be the odd spider's web woven overnight.
