The Three Doves: River walks & forest adventures
The Three Doves: River walks & forest adventures
Description
The Three Doves is our family home and smallholding, tucked away beside the River Severn near Awre. Two old Cowsheds have been converted into comfortable cottages; this one sleeps four, with a king bedroom and twin. Outside are apple orchards, Burford Brown chickens and our kitchen garden, where we grow produce for Post, our restaurant in nearby Newnham. Footpaths lead from the door across the fields and along the Severn, with the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley close by. The space The south-facing French windows open onto the old apple orchard, while the kitchen and sitting room look down across the fields towards the River Severn. The double bedroom has a generous king-size bed, built-in storage and an ensuite bathroom with a bath and overhead shower. The twin bedroom has two single beds, a chest of drawers and its own ensuite shower room. The shower room is clean and functional, but is perhaps the Achilles' heel, rather lacking the charm of the rest. Both bedrooms have Egyptian cotton bed linen, feather pillows and duvets, and large white towels. The Cowshed has underfloor heating throughout, as well as a wood-burning stove with starter firewood provided. The sitting room has a Smart TV, radio and Bose speaker, along with books and board games. The kitchen is well equipped for cooking, with an electric hob and oven, fridge with freezer compartment, dishwasher, microwave, kettle and toaster, as well as a cafetière and Lavazza espresso machine. Outside is a small private garden with a table and chairs and a charcoal barbecue beneath the orchard. Guests are also welcome to wander throughout the smallholding. A laundry room accessed on the northern side is shared bewtwen the two Cowsheds and has a washing machine ironing and clothes' dryer. Guest access Don't clean your car before you arrive - the farm track down to us is exactly that and you occasionally need a little patience whilst the cows or sheep move out of your way. * December - the pot holes on the drive are v prominent at the moment so do take it slowly. Probably unsuitable for nervous drivers of little cars! Other things to note The Severn has an enormous tidal range so shift any expectations of wild swimming to the nearby Wye.
