The Great Alder Grove of Fontaine-Guérard

We offer four bedrooms and spacious living rooms in the heart of one of the most beautiful sites in the Andelle Valley. Crossed by the river and a small pond, in the heart of a vast and well-kept garden, offering varied and colorful scenery in all seasons, La Grande Aulnaie is bordered by the Fontaine-Guérard Abbey, the fascinating ruins of the Levavasseur spinning mill, and the Longboel Forest. The private woods of Fontaine-Guérard and Bonnemare are also open to our guests. The space The Moulin has three levels: - on the ground floor, a large living room (56 m²) facing south and east and a large terrace (200 m²) facing east (overlooking the pond and the abbey) and north (overlooking the river; - on the first floor, four bright and spacious bedrooms (15 to 17 m2), each with a toilet and bathroom; the Grive Musicienne has a bathtub; the other three bedrooms have a shower (120 x 80 cm). Each bedroom has a double bed (1.60 m x 1.90 m) or, on request, two single beds (0.80 m x 1.90 m). Each with different decor, the rooms have a large and pretty view of the river or the valley. - on the second floor, a large attic (60 m2 of surface under height greater than 1.80 m), pool table, library, bridge table, work or reading desk, flat-screen TV (LCD 102 3D LED), high quality HIFI channel. The attic is extended by a covered terrace that offers panoramic views of the Andelle valley, and the foothills of the Vexin plateau. On arrival, you will find the bedrooms and bathrooms prepared: beds made (normally double beds for two people, unless special request for two single beds), towels provided. After prior agreement and according to conditions to be defined, the Mill can be used for small receptions. An adjoining pavilion (60 m2), with large fireplace and rotisserie, can be made available to extend the reception room of the Mill. The property is designed to be pleasant in all seasons and in all weather. The two large living rooms, on the ground floor, around the fireplace, with the terrace, and on the second floor, with an infinite perspective, are places of conviviality very popular for stays with family or friends. The large garden (3.5 ha) has been the subject of all our care for 34 years. Its interest and charm, considered as a whole as in its details, are not reserved for the resplendent moments of spring, late summer and early autumn. Many varieties of plants, trees and shrubs give the property a real appeal in all seasons: even in winter, there are flowers (Nerines, Hellebores, Mahonias charity, Prunus subhirtella autumnalis, Hamamelis, numerous and diverse bulbs from mid-January...); and on gray days, you can see the flamboyant branches of dogwoods, willows, and the bright cream-white of birches (especially Betula utilis or ermanii). Our guests can walk in the 110 ha of private forest that extend the property (Bois de Fontaine-Guérard and Bonnemare). FONTAINE-GUERARD is served by small roads with very low traffic. The nearest houses are about 700 meters away. Departmental 321 is further away and does not cause any inconvenience. The surroundings do not include unsightly or smelly buildings. Guest access Guests have access to the entire house and adjoining terrace (description above). They can walk freely throughout the park, which is large enough (3 ha 60 a) to preserve the privacy of guests and owners. They can also walk freely in the 110 ha of private forest extending the property and which are crossed by well-maintained paths (Bonnemare wood, Fontaine-Guérard wood, overlooking the Filature and the valley). Also on site, and if you are a fly fisherman, you can access the prestigious Parcours de l'Andelle, 11 km of shores starting from the Abbey of Fontaine-Guérard, managed by the association "La Mouche Charlevalaise" (day tickets). Warning: La Grande Aulnaie, crossed by the waters, is only accessible to young children under the permanent supervision of an adult. Other things to note Minimum stay is two or three nights depending on the season. A significant discount on the base rate is applied from the third night. Checkout on the last day is normally at 12pm. However, you can stay on site and leave in the afternoon whenever it is compatible with the arrival of the next guests. Walks Culture Leisure At the heart of a site that inspired the most beautiful pages of a successful book (Philippe Delerm, Les chemins nous inventent, p. 51 et seq.), a stay at LA GRANDE AULNAIE can be occupied in various ways, according to your tastes and your mood of the day. You can first stay on site, enjoy the house and garden to rest, read, listen to music. In the attic of the second floor (60 m2 under a height of more than 1.80 m), with balcony and panoramic view of the valley, you will have a large pool table (280 x 140 cm), a very high quality HIFI system. Still on site, you can visit the Abbey of Fontaine-Guérard (12th century) and be amazed by the neo-Gothic spinning cathedral built between 1855 and 1859, the "madness" of Baron Levavasseur, which never ceases to fascinate visitors. Nearby and within a radius of 15 km, you have the Forest of Lyons and its village, the castles of Bonnemare (Radepont), Vascoeuil, Martainville, the abbeys of Mortemer (Lisors), Bonport (Pont-de-l'Arche), the town of Les Andelys, Château-Gaillard, the Collegiate Church of Ecouis, the locks of Poses, the Côte des Deux-Amants... Music lovers will be able to attend the musical events of the Moulin d'Andé, intimate, warm and of very high artistic level.
