The space This redesigned Polynesian beachfront home has been beautifully refreshed with a modern island aesthetic, new lighting, upgraded electrical work, quality furnishings, and a calm, contemporary atmosphere. The home once belonged to my father, Jay Carlisle, and was originally built by one of three American pioneers who moved to Moorea in 1959, later known as the iconic Bali Hai Boys. They are credited with inventing the overwater bungalow, and the original Bali Hai Hotel they created is now the Manava Beach Resort and Spa. Inside, the home has been thoughtfully reimagined without losing its original spirit. Two master suites sit at opposite ends of the house, offering privacy, comfort, and unobstructed lagoon views. Both suites are air conditioned and designed to bring the natural beauty of Moorea into the room. The living room opens fully toward the garden and the lagoon, allowing ocean breezes to flow naturally through the home. It is equipped with a ceiling fan rather than air conditioning, keeping the space airy and comfortable when the large doors are open. The kitchen and living areas are bright, open, and newly redesigned for comfort and ease. Guests enjoy direct access to the beach and a private dock shared only with the two neighboring homes. Otaha Beach House is located on the north side of Moorea, in the heart of the village of Maharepa. Perfectly situated to explore the area on foot, the home is within walking distance of the grocery store, banks, and the town center, where you will find boutiques, restaurants, jewelry stores, and other local shops. Guest access You will have full access to the entire home, the beachfront area directly in front of the house, and the dock. Please note that the dock is a shared private space used only by this home and the two neighboring houses. For your stay, we include one double kayak for two people, one single kayak, and one stand up paddleboard, available for guests to enjoy the lagoon. Other things to note There is no air conditioning in the living room. The space is designed to be open to the garden and lagoon, with a ceiling fan and natural ocean breezes that keep it comfortable when the large doors are open. Perfectly situated to experience the best of Maharepa on foot, Otaha Beach House is just a short walk from Libre Service supermarket (4–5 minutes) and Downtown Maharepa (3 minutes), where you will find boutiques, restaurants, jewelry stores, and local shops.
