Description
Bright south-westerly outlook on Scotland's beautiful West Coast, breathtaking seascapes & tranquility - stunning, uninterrupted views to the inner-Hebridean islands of Jura, Scarba, Shuna • Traditional wooden chalet for 1-2 people • 1 bedroom: small double bed* (abuts walls on 3-sides) + single • Open kitchen/lounge/diner with comfy sofa & chairs, large Sony TV, DVD • Well-equipped kitchen + washing machine & dryer • Shower-room w/ toilet & basin • stable WiFi • 5% discount on 7 nights The space You'll be mesmerised by the ever-changing picture beyond the Chalet’s lounge window - guests frequently cite this as a main attraction. Many hours have been lost watching the weather & the slowly-passing crafts navigating the sea, Loch Melfort & entrance to Craobh Haven marina across the water. The traditional, solid Chalet was carpenter-built over 60 years ago and accommodates two people (and a dog!) extremely comfortably. Reroofed and double-glazed over the winter of 2025-26, the warm & comfy living accommodation provides a quiet retreat for local walks, drives and sight-seeing, + a great base for visiting the many attractions up & down the coast. Whether you’re a historian, marine biologist, geologist, gardener, golfer, bird-watcher, wildlife-lover, horse-rider, hill-walker, kayaker, wild-swimmer - or simply want a break far from the madding crowd - the Chalet is perfectly located and appointed. Entrance via 2 small steps from the off-road private parking leads thru a small hallway to * the open plan kitchen / lounge / diner * a shower room with loo & sink * the bedroom with small double bed and a single (for use as a twin - 2 max) ...so no steps once through the front door. On wintry nights, take your choice of overhead lighting or soft lamps, comfy armchairs or lounging sofa to watch the large Sony TV (FreeSat), select from many DVDs, listen to the radio, read a good book or simply gaze at the view. Long summer days stretch into one another when the moon reflects back off the sea, revealing a stunning moonlit island seascape. Quite magical. The compact but extremely well equipped kitchen contains a wide range of utensils, crockery and cutlery in drawers and cupboards, & on the wooden worktop a toaster, coffee machine + cafetière & microwave. Appliances include hob with oven & grill, fridge with small top-freezer compartment, washing machine & tumble drier, sink & drainer. From the dining table at the picture window, you’ll get to watch at close quarters the many birds visiting the feeder - only 3-feet away! If you’re very lucky (& still), you may capture one or both of our resident red squirrels as they take an early breakfast or late supper. The bedroom’s 4ft double bed is really comfortable, tho does abut walls on 3 sides (please see the pics), so may not suit anyone over 6 foot. With a single bed too, this combination offers flexibility to accommodate couples or companions. Individually-controlled panel-heaters in each room are mechanically pre-programmed to come on automatically every morning & all evening, & may also be over-ridden for your comfort. Garden sofa + dining table & chairs, together with & bbq, make for a relaxing day or evening in fair weather. We welcome well-behaved small to medium-sized dogs - although there are some additional requests here so please contact before booking to ensure we're fully aligned on those. When you arrive we’ll be happy to give you the low-down on the many areas for dog-walking based on your & your pets’ preference for distance & terrain. Sadly, we're no longer able to accept large breeds, nor slobbery or shedding dogs, much-loved and loveable as we know they are. For extended family members, the adjacent Post House ‘Comfy Cottage’ (see separate listing) may be booked too. Over the years, many grand-parents accompanying a family staying in the Post House Cottage have welcomed the peaceful respite afforded by the Chalet! Guest access You'll have private use of the Chalet & full use of the garden to the front. Parking is adjacent, with two steps up to the front door - thereafter, everything's on one level. Other things to note If I’m around when you arrive I’ll meet you at the Chalet, which will have been deep-cleaned for your arrival. Otherwise I’ll stop by to say hello soon after. Our check- in/out times reflect the enhanced cleaning protocols I continue to adopt from the Association of Scotland's Self Caterers - they are rigorous, take time, and can’t be half-done. Please consider these times before making your booking. Near the time of your stay if there's a gap in bookings before or after your stay, I will be very happy to relax these arrangements when we liaise regarding your arrival. As a tiny hamlet, Arduaine comprises a smattering of private dwellings set randomly in the hillside above Asknish bay. We are rural... there are no streets & hence no street lighting, so on a clear night the view of the heavens, stars & if you’re very lucky, the northern lights (aurora) are truly magnificent. It also means there are no real boundaries between properties or from the road. ***DOG OWNERS*** - please see 'House Rules>Additional Info' or get in touch before booking to check suitability. Our rural position means the concept of popping to a corner shop for milk & bread is alien here! Most people stock the larder & fridge on arrival, and there are village stores within 5-6 miles in either direction. But with so many places to see and visit and wonder at, wander round and eat at, the habit comes quickly of picking what you need whilst you're out & about. ***FAMILIES*** - the Chalet is comfortably-appointed for 1-2 adults (or 1 adult and 1 child). Our maximum occupancy is 2 persons. Please note, that our property is not suitable for infants (under 2yrs); we thank you for respecting that. EE mobile phone coverage up and down our west coast is pretty good, but sadly (or magnificently, depending upon your point of view) rural Scotland is not so well-served by other providers. Most now offer Wifi-calling - contact your service provider whilst within mobile coverage to activate. Whilst not super-fast, our stable mesh Wi-Fi system enables phone & video calls to be made over the internet via FB Messaging, Zoom, MS Teams & other VOIP services. As with many rural Scottish properties (& all those between Lochgilphead & Oban outskirts), no mains water or sewage systems service our area. Our private water supply comes from the hill behind the cottage, filtered at the holding tanks & UV-treated at the kitchen tap. Copious bottled water is provided for drinking. Yes, it’s a flushing water toilet! so human waste & loo paper flush just fine. The septic tank requires only the need to bag & bin anything that’s not human waste or loo paper.
