Enjoy the richness of lush greenery with the warmth of staying with a Syrian Christian family. The space Aqualillies Water Front Heritage Homestay is at Attyppeedika, a village around two kilometer from the main town of Kumarakom, near the Vembanad Lake. This Christian ‘Tharavad’ (Ancestral House) belong to an ancient aristocratic Syrian Christian family ‘Oruvettithara’ is built in the Kerala ‘Vastu’ (architecture) style is complete with an 'Ara’ (wooden compartment used to store food grains) and a ‘Nilavara’ (cellar). The House is within 1.5 acres of land with a canal that connects to the lake as a boundary. The grounds are lush green with trees which makes it an ideal spot to laze around with a book in your hand, play some outdoor games or simply hang out with friends. The home consists of 5 Air Conditioned Bedrooms for guests, Sit out, Dining Room, Kitchen and Work area. The Nilavara (cellar) has been converted to the host’s quarter. This property is suitable for small functions and gatherings with ample parking space. Guest access Guests can access to sitout,and dinning room . Guest can sit near the canal in front of the homestay. Guests can use the shuttle court and lawn. They can walk through the property of 1 and half acres land. During your stay The history of ‘Umacheril’ family dates back to AD 1700 when Kumarakom was ruled by the King of Travancore. The king of Travancore had brought down two Christian families to Kumarakom to do the religious rites for him that is to serve the oil, The Konathattu family; the most ancient Christian family in Kumarakom, was one of them. Your host Mr. Kosygin Andrews is the best person to speak to about the history of Kumarakom. Being a 4th generation Syrian Christian from Kumarakom, he could guide you through the history the village and that of Syrian Catholics in Kerala. You would be surprised finding some unique Syrian Catholic dishes during your stay with us.
