The space A lovely holiday cottage in peaceful surroundings. What else do you need for your much needed break in Scotland?. Ground Floor: Step to entrance. All on the ground floor. Living room: With Freeview TV and double sofa bed. Kitchen: With electric oven, electric hob, microwave, fridge and washing machine. Bedroom: With double bed. Shower room: With shower cubicle and toilet.. Oil central heating, electricity, bed linen and towels included. Welcome pack.. Large lawned garden with sitting-out area and garden furniture. Bike store. No smoking.. Abbey Cottage is tucked peacefully away in the delightful small village of New Abbey on the Solway Firth Coastal Trail. This cottage is cosy, with all facilities being on the ground floor; comprising of a living room with picture window, a lovely bedroom, a well equipped kitchen and a shower room. If peace and tranquillity are what you are looking for then look no further... New Abbey is steeped in history and Abbey Cottage sits quietly behind the Old Cornmill. Take a stroll through the village and visit the ruins of Sweetheart Abbey, which was founded by Lady Devorgilla in 1273, then why not enjoy morning coffee in the village tea room? For the more avid walker, a popular walk near New Abbey is the one up Criffel, a hump-backed hill that at 1871 feet is the highest around and from the summit the views of the surrounding area are breath-taking. Just along the road is Mabie Forest, where there are a variety of activities including many varied walking trails and some of the world-class 7stanes mountain biking trails. There is even a butterfly reserve! There is so much open space for the kids to run around and they are sure to love the adventure playground. A must for the kids too is a visit to Mabie Farm Park, which is nestled just below Mabie Forest where you can feed the animals and see the Belted Galloways, Alpaca, Llamas and much, much more. It will certainly keep you entertained all day. Further afield this beautiful area of South West Scotland has so much more to offer from the quiet sandy coves and cliff top walks, to the many castles, like Caerlaverock and Drumlanrig. Warmed by the Gulf Stream, the area has many beautiful gardens to visit, including Threave Gardens (National Trust) and Logan Botanic Gardens - Scotland’s most exotic garden. A stay here would not be complete without taking a drive along the coast and a wander round the little seaside villages of Southerness, Rockcliffe and Kippford. Beach 5½ miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 200 yards.
