Scenic Barn Retreat Hot Tub, Dark Sky Park, Brecon

Description

You'll love: - Waking up to birdsong from our three comfy double bedrooms - Hiking and biking in 80 acres of private woodland near the Brecon Beacons - Catching up with romcoms on the 6 metre drop down cinema screen, playing pool - Dinner with friends round the elm table, playing cards with family in front of the wood burner - Optional hot tub and super-fast broadband if you have to #WFH - Star spotting meteors in the Dark Skies Park from the wood fired hot tub - Feeding the wild ponies & pigs The space The barn is a beautifully designed, spacious hideaway for romantic breaks and special occasions. This original 19th century, traditional stone agricultural barn has been meticulously restored. The exposed stone walls, solid oak floorboards and locally salvaged purple Welsh slate adds character, while underfloor heating and a super-efficient German wood burner makes staying at this unique property an experience like no other. 360 wrap-around windows have been designed to call the outside into this comfortable raised stone barn with its surrounding private woodlands. Changing views over the rolling Cambrians unfold each day - families and eco-lovers alike will enjoy the drama. Families and eco lovers alike will enjoy the drama between the comfort of the raised stone barn and its surrounding private wildlands. The open plan living area of this unique upside down house, makes it easy to enjoy sweeping views of the mountains, forest and birdlife - particularly the eponymous Red Kites riding the thermals above. This home has been transformed by its owners into a work of art using knockout design at a low carbon cost. Light floods into a fresh backdrop of high oak beams and white plaster, sheep wool fills the walls, ground-source pumps heat the floors . With LED mood lights and a contemporary log-burner, the vibe upstairs is irresistible, and so is the entertainment: a pool table, a 10 foot drop-down screen for films, and Ruark surround sound: there’s really no reason to ever go out. When you do exchange your books for your boots, you’ll cross the rugged garden which blends into the 80-acre wildlands and beyond - you’ll be turbo charged by the ozone as you toast marshmallows on the fire pit. As the sun dips below the horizon, you’ll be able to get the full benefit of our location rubbing shoulders with the famous Elan Valley Dark-Skies Park - hire the hot tub for the ultimate star spotting experience. Guest access You'll have access to the whole property - three bedrooms and a bathroom downstairs and an open-plan kitchen/dining The barn is utterly secluded with 1000’s of acres of countryside on your doorstep. Steep yourself in the peace or make as much noise as you like. Abergwesyn Common is adjacent, brave the bogs and hike to Strata Florida Abbey, but closer to home, you won’t believe the wildlife that you’ll see - our wild ponies and pigs, sheep, hares, frogs and toads in the lake. Bird lovers will love the variety of bird life we’re beginning to see as the estate undergoes rewilding - Red Kites are just the beginning! Newbridge on Wye post office is our brilliant local convenience store (3 miles) , Llandridnod and Builth Wells are nearby for essentials and late night supermarkets, and Rhayder boasts some quaint pubs, lovely shops for browsing and a Gilgrin Red kite feeding station which is excellent. Further afield are Hay-on-Wye and Ludlow for independent shops and really foodie places, but really Red Kite Barn is a place for staying in, relishing your surroundings and listening to the birds… Other things to note The private estate has its own track - which can be bumpy in places. You could come face to face with sheep, ponies and pigs, so driving slowly is essential, and you will need to remember to close gates behind you! The barn is designed as an upside-down house to take full advantage of the glorious Welsh light and incredible views in the living area - the bedrooms downstairs have shutters which are often closed but all open out. There is a steep staircase and natural terrain outdoors, so the barn is perhaps less suitable for people who aren’t steady on their feet. While there is Wifi in the barn, it is ‘rural’ and isn’t strong enough for streaming films so you will have to download in advance or bring DVD’s for the best sound (though it will do facetime). Now available is the option of super fast broadband (from £50) for those who would like to stream entertainment or to work from home.
