5 minutes from the beach; the mouth of the Rakaia River, a well known salmon fishing site; and Lake Ellesmere Waihora; on a working farm growing saffron, walnuts and forestry. There are plenty of friendly animals and maybe a freshly laid egg for breakfast. 45-50 minutes drive south from Christchurch city, 10 minutes east of state highway 1. The nearby villages boast outlets for local arts, crafts and antiques, and a fine swimming pool for the many hot summer days. Other things to note Charging electric vehicles is not encouraged unless a payment is negotiated with the host. Expect to be asked for $20 for this facility (either cash or bank deposit).
