We named the home "Liichichi Uuchum", which is Hummingbird Home in the local Miwok language because of the hummingbirds in the area. There is evidence of Miwok daily life on this 10-acre property located in a peaceful Oak valley with granite boulders and a seasonal stream. El Portal into Yosemite is a 1 hour scenic drive and Mariposa town is 10 mins. Guests have full and private access. A solar array on the roof and the all-electric home makes your vacation rental with us carbon-neutral. The co-host Andrea lives next door. The house is single story with a front patio that uses the local Mariposa slate. There is a retractable awning out front for protection from the weather, and a gas BBQ available to guests. The property is rustic and ideal for people who want quiet and want to enjoy nature. There is only one house on the road beyond the house, your property manager Andrea lives there with her family. There is one large bedroom with an attached full bathroom with a shower over tub, and a curtain-enclosed area in the common area with a double bed. The common area has another bathroom with a stall shower and a separate toilet. The bedroom has a queen bed and a full bed. The common area has a double bed and a single bed available for your use. The kitchen is fully-equipped with dishes, spices, a slow cooker, blender, coffee pot, as well as pots and pans. There is a 42" LCD TV with a PS3 and connected to the internet so you can log into your Netflix or Amazon accounts for streaming. (No game controllers with the PS3, so bring your own). The DSL internet has generally been found to be of good quality with no failures and the house has a printer with paper for business needs. There are games, novels and books on local flora and fauna available to borrow. The house has an A/C for those really hot days in the summer. There is plenty of parking on the property. Guests will have full and private access to the house and property. If guests are interested in exploring the 10-acre property, please ask our property manager Andrea to give you pointers on where to walk and how to find the boulder with grinding stones. In the spring the property has wildflowers like shooting stars, owl’s clover, and lupines, There are lots of Oak trees, some pine, wildlife and interesting birds in the area. The Yaqui creek runs through the property during the winter rains so the other half of the property is only accessible if you are willing to walk across the streams. We have some steel-tipped boots available for guest use and only ask that you wash the boots after use before you store them back in the closet. Andrea, our local property manager is there to help with questions and issues. She can provide as little or much guidance as you need for the local area or questions about the property. The house is located in a rural area of Mariposa and set well back from the main road. The only traffic past the house is to the neighbors house who is also the co-host. So this is a very private location. It is safe to go for a walk or run on the neighboring streets. Due to the rural nature of the property please be respectful and aware of the wildlife. You will most likely see lots of bird activity, California quail, turkey, deer, and raccoons. You will need a car to access the property. There is a YARTS bus service from town to Yosemite Valley. Note that the property is truly rustic, this means water supply is from a well. The kitchen has a reverse-osmosis filter installed under the sink for guest use. The house operates on a septic system. So care must be taken about what is flushed down the toilet. Being rustic also means that it is normal to expect some wildlife and insect activity in and around the property. Your cell service at the property may be spotty. Please feel free to use the landline in the house for local calls, WIFI for mobile messaging services and use apps such as FaceTime, WhatsApp, and Skype for long-distance calls. No pets allowed due to the rustic nature of this property--unfortunately we cannot accept responsibility for your pets. (Note that although "No pets allowed" is checked on our listing, Airbnb still thinks this property allows pets.) Given our location which is close to Yosemite and the Sierra National Forest we have occasional PG&E power outages over which we have no control. We provide some led lamps, a small battery to charge your phones, drinking water jugs, and a 55 gal rain barrel with water to fill the toilets and wash hands. Please note this if you have sensitive medical equipment that requires power. And please carry travel insurance since we cannot reimburse your stay if the power loss is due to a PG&E issue.
