A sauna in the barn can also be used by you. It costs €20 per session. Washing machine €4.50. Other things to note Since our house is not located directly in the village, but in the fields above Kühlungsborn, it is very pleasant to be a little further from the hustle and bustle of the beach, especially in summer. Tips and advice for staying in the "Alte Büdnerei" Welcome to the Alte Büdnerei in Unterbastorf. We hope you had a pleasant journey and arrived well. To make your stay and start to your vacation a little easier, we would like to share our personal experiences with you. Have fun studying the pages. 1. Practical tips for getting started: rolls, shopping, ... For a good morning, there are the best rolls and baguettes or a breakfast at the Bäckerei Junge directly down at the pier or at the harbor. This is a bakery chain, but especially the Stadtkrosser, pumpkin and sunflower seed rolls are great. Also suitable as blanks for baking yourself in the morning. In the Strandstr. near Röntgen there are the best croissants, undoubtedly the best confectioner far and wide, the cakes are really "exceptional". If you want to get it quickly from us, you can also get quite acceptable rolls in the morning at the gas station on the right up the Schlossallee (about 200 m). The breakfast newspapers are available at all bakeries, at the gas station anyway and in the bookstore on Strandstr. The Ostseezeitung tells you every day (except Sundays) what is going on in K´Born and the surrounding area. For the big purchases, Penny on the Neue Reihe is inexpensive. Edeka Neukauf on Reriker Straße (entrance to K'Born-West) is well sorted and also good in fresh goods. There is also a beverage store here (the selection of good wines is small; halfway good wine is available in the west in a wine shop on Poststraße/corner of Hermannstrasse. Kraut und Rüben in Ost (Strandstrasse) usually has good fruit, vegetables and herbs. The weekly market is both in K'Born and Bad Doberan (recommended on Thursdays). Good fish is available in K´Born West in the sales pavilion with the restaurant of the fisherman on the Ostseeallee at the Kunsthalle, where the hotel "Schloss am Meer" is. If you find the people in the shops unfriendly, then that's a mistake. Here in Meck-Pom, people don't talk much, as you get to the point quite dryly without keeping your mouth open for long, as it is too windy. 2. Beaches and (water) sports There are a lot of very different and beautiful beaches between Fulgen (east of Kühlungsborn) and Rerik (very west of Kühlungsborn). Let's go from east to west. The beaches are approx. 10 minutes by car and 20 minutes by bike. At the Steilküste i.H. von Wittenbeck stop (left at the "Nasses Eck" inn) there is a beautiful wide sandy beach for all clothing variants - mostly nudist - not quite so crowded and quite nice people. Further west of it is the dog beach, only recommended for dog owners. Then further west of the Fulgenbach, behind the harbor, already in Kühlungsborn and behind the Scanhotel, the sandy beach is for all purposes, especially for water sports enthusiasts and volleyball players. From our place, this beach is easily accessible: turn right into the country road, then left down Schloßstraße and then behind the Molli stop, turn right into Cubanzestraße and go straight ahead to the Scanhotel. There is plenty of parking there - if necessary behind the Scanhotel. This is also where the visitor's tax zone begins and beach chairs can be rented here as well as boats and surfboards. West of the pier, the "good-bourgeois" beach begins up to Kühlungsborn-Ost (Hotel Schloß am Meer). Can also be quite nice, especially because you can drink good coffee in the hotels and cafés behind the dunes/forest on the Ostseeallee. It is especially nice to go to the beach plus swimming in West at the Kunsthalle, where there is a beautiful beach, boats and a branch of Café Röntgen and Bäckerei Junge, where you can enjoy the various types of coffee. At the level of the Ostseeklinik, K'born West (you drive past the campsite) there is a parking lot, from which a small path leads along the clinic to the beach. There is usually not much going on here, but it is a very nice dune beach and starting point for further walking by the water. A little further west, but rewarding is the way to the beach in Kägsdorf or Meschendorf: from us left up into the country road, then up at the end of the country road left towards Bastorf, then behind the guest house "Zum Leuchtturm" right in and always along this road to Kägsdorf, there again left to the manor house and then again straight to the beach. Here is a wide natural beach. At the front of the parking lot you can also go into the shallow and almost always clear water without stones. Here, too, it is mostly nudist, but everyone does as they wish. Further back there is a volleyball court. If you want to have your peace, go further east. Here is also a beautiful and wide beach, few people and at the Riedensee it is just beautiful. Here you can take wonderful walks on the beach, no matter what time of year. In Rerik, the cliffs are recommended. Especially for bike tours from Bastorf to Rerik, you have a beautiful view above the sea. It is best to hit the coast just before Rerik, or drive through Rerik to the main beach and Salzhaff. (On the steep coast at the beginning of Rerik you can eat very good fish with homemade mashed potatoes in the restaurant "Zur Steilküste") Surfing can be done in many places, but the best surfing area is Salzhaff. Unless someone is a professional and dares to surf the Baltic Sea from wind force 4. A good surf spot on the Salzhaff is behind Teßmannsdorf, which is now again about 20 minutes towards Neubukow, behind Zweedorf, then right towards Blengow, then behind it towards Roggow... (best to take a map). Here you can get right to the water and the water has standing depth almost everywhere. If you are looking for a nice ambience on the beach overlooking beautiful architecture and also nice people, the beach of Heiligendamm would still be recommended, which is no longer stony, as sand has been washed up and is not so easy to reach for simple tourism (website hidden).: The Baltic Sea should not be underestimated, it can sometimes have high waves, which is fun, but also dangerous. There are sandbanks, behind which it then becomes deeper. Even with an undercurrent in the water, you should be careful with children. It's best never to go that far out, then nothing will happen (because every now and then something happens here). The golf course of the Wittenbeck Golf Club is a beautifully located 9-hole course where you can easily play as a stranger (phone number hidden), which is currently being expanded to an 18-hole course. For tennis players, the tennis courts in Ost am Lindenpark are highly recommended – newly made and perfectly located – everyone can play here. 3. Restaurants and pubs There are several good to very good restaurants. Our favorite restaurant "for good" is Wilhelm's in the beach road, in the Hotel Neptun. The kitchen is very good, the wines are just as good and the service is good, and the people are very nice. The decor of the restaurant is very appealing, and the hotel is also well done. Tip: Delicious appetizers and half portions of the main courses offered. You will certainly be full of this and it may still fit one of the really delicious desserts (Tel:(phone number hidden)). Also new in Villa Astoria is the restaurant of Tillmann Hahn's Gasthaus in Ost, which spoils you with a lot of culinary delights. In the hotel "Travel Charme Ostseehotel Kühlungsborn" down at the pier in Ost you can also eat well and have - if you get a table directly in front - a great view of the Baltic Sea, good food is also available in the beach hotel "Sonnenburg" directly on the beach road. Also recommended is the restaurant in the Europahotel on Strandstraße, which is at least more appealing inside than outside; the kitchen is really good, especially in terms of price/performance ratio. You can also have a good breakfast here. The Pizzeria Rossini under the colonnades in West is also highly recommended, for Berliners: the pizza baker there comes from the "12 Apostles". "Zum Harten Törn" next to the Kunsthalle is also recommended because of its hearty food and good prices. Many locals are there. At the harbor you will find the "Vielmeer" with live music on weekends and a lot of hustle and bustle but also good food. Good fish can be found in the Fischkiste on Strandstraße and in the "Hotel am Strand" on Ostseeallee (coming from the east). It is also nicer inside than it looks from the outside. The Cypriot cuisine in Famagusta on Strandstraße is usually good. In the hotel "Aquamarin" in K'Born-West there is a nice Irish pub, in the Seeteufel you can also just drink a beer. The night bar in the Villa Baltic impresses with the combined charm that the remains of the old spa architecture and the remains of the GDR facility still spread (when it is open). Now a few more tips for "away." In Bad Doberan, the Kurhotel "Am Kamp" (Tel.: (phone number hidden)) tastes great and the interior is also good. The Kempinski Grand Hotel in Heiligendamm does not have to be a "must", but it is worth it - you can eat well there without a suit, but it is a bit finer and a bit more stately. In Rostock, the "Kogge" directly below on the street by the harbor is particularly worth visiting for the real maritime ambience. It's simple here, but the (mostly) fishy food tastes good. In Warnemünde you can eat very well next to the gazebo (see above) in the hotel "Hübner", sometimes it is a bit "schicki-micki", but in a relaxed holiday atmosphere you can also have a good time. In Wismar, the "Alte Schwede" and "Zum Weinberg" are probably a must, but in fine weather it is nicer in the evening down at the harbor in the many restaurants. 4. Culture This is reported in detail in all possible guides. Just take a look at the various books in our closet or wherever they are lying around. Rostock and Wismar as the main cultural sites are about 30 minutes away. The events of the Mecklenburg Summer Festival are almost always worthwhile. For those interested in painting, it is worth engaging with the artists of the little-known Schwaan artists' colony (compared to the Ahrenshooper or Worpsweder artists' colony), see below under "Excursions," very worthwhile. Our neighbor, Dieter Becker (white house diagonally opposite), is a well-known painter who is looking forward to a visit from art lovers (several pictures of him will be seen with us, Tel: (phone number hidden)). Cinemas (if you want to categorize the films running here under culture) are available in K'Born at the campsite and in the Konzertgarten West, in Bad Doberan in the Kamptheater and in Rostock and Wismar anyway. In summer also on the beach in Ost. The program is in the Ostseezeitung or directly at the cinema at the campsite in K'born – and actually there are really good films from time to time! To know what is currently going on in the off-scene and also the on-scene, you should buy the magazine "Mecks". 5. Small and day trips This is not intended to be a mini-guide, but only reflects our own "favorites" as a recommendation for you. Always beautiful because of its view, it is up at the lighthouse in fine weather. At this point, the Bastorf beacon is the highest of the German sea, you simply have a stunning view. The lighthouse can be climbed daily (10 am - 1 pm and 3 pm - 5 pm). At its feet there is the "Cafe Valentin" with delicious cakes. A nice bike tour goes to Schloß Hohen Niendorf through the forest behind us (left along the country road, at Sobotta's again left into the forest and then always keep right until 2 farmhouses come, there left until Niendorf is signposted). From there you can - for a longer excursion - drive back via Mechelsdorf and Kägsdorf, or directly back again. In Hohen Niendorf, the drive through the village is worth it. Or you can drive from Mechelsdorf to Rerik and then on the coastal path directly up the cliff (great view) back to K´born. A nice tour is on foot or by bike the way from K´Born on the beach along to Heiligendamm (for the walking tour, about 1 ½ h) or up on the bike path (about 30 minutes). Here you go along the steep coast, shortly before Heiligendamm through the Gespens-terwald and in Heiligendamm directly to the old villas. For "restoration" you should go to the hotel/restaurant "Residenz Hotel am Heiligen Damm", then it is recommended to take the Molli back to K'Born. The visit to the glassblowing shop of Regine Kaufmann in Glashagen/Glashagen-Hütte can, because the things are so beautiful, certainly cost money; but you will be rewarded accordingly by the beautiful things. The best way to get here is by car via Steffenshagen, where one of the most beautiful brick Gothic churches in this area is located. Jewelry, completely individual, is available at Jule Müller in Bad Doberan, Tel.: (phone number hidden). Or at the goat market pottery, violins and a cafe. In Schwaan, the local museum about the Schwaan artists' colony (Kunstmühle, (website hidden)) is highly recommended. It is a still very unknown colony that was closely connected to the Ahrenshooper and has produced very high-profile painters (e.g. Franz Bunke, Rudolf Bartels). Literature about this is available – whoever searches will find. It's very worthwhile! For larger excursions, we recommend Wismar. Here you can spend a day and walk for hours through different streets with different gable shapes of the old (Hanseatic) houses. There are some nice smaller shops and for the coffee or the small snack in between there are a lot of nice places. Warnemünde and Rostock are better for "shopping" alone. In Warnemünde you should also stroll "Am Strom" and/or try the fresh fish opposite the fishermen. Schwerin is even further away, a very appealing city with a concert hall and opera, and Güstrow, which is worth the trip not only because of the "angel" of Barlach. 6. (House) technology and what else can break Front building ground floor: The stove is a gas stove, which can be started by simultaneously pressing the round control knobs and the black, sausage-shaped "igniter" pushers. The oven runs on electricity. To get it going, you usually have to press all 3 existing buttons/regulators. Trying is better than studying! It always runs a little bit afterwards. The dishwasher is quite easy to use if you know how to do it - so just stick with it. Explanation is inside on the upper, visible part of the door, where the program switches are. Turn on by pressing the "On" button and simultaneously pressing the program button. When the wash cycle is over, the machine announces this with a hellish 15-second tone. Unfortunately, you have to go through it, not turn anything off beforehand, it's no use anyway. Heating: Normally there should be no problems. Control via the thermostats on the radiators. If not, it is best to call us or in an emergency the emergency service at Müller /see phone number on the heater) (website hidden)/radio/CD everything is there for use. To watch TV, please only press the satellite receiver switch. Barn: The stove is also a gas stove, easy to use: press the respective knobs at the front, ignites automatically, wait a bit and then the flame burns. The dishwasher is operated by quite self-explanatory push buttons inside the door. The heating is underfloor heating, which is complicated to control. In the individual smaller rooms there are radiators that can be controlled individually. If you have any problems, please call. For the fireplace, please get firewood yourself, e.g. from Edeka Neukauf or Kataschewski or in consultation for a donation through us. Shared infrastructure: The washing machine is quite easy to operate, drying is done outside, there is a clothesline in front and back on the meadow. This is almost as fast as with a dryer in good wind. When using, please pay €4.50 per wash upon departure. Please separate the garbage. Yellow bags for "plastic" are in the pantry, paper/cardboard can also be collected there, the garbage can is outside in the dry toilet/latrine. The garbage can is emptied every other Wednesday, please put out the garbage cans - if the neighbors put out the garbage cans, it is the 4th Thursday. Paper and bottles must be taken away separately and privately: containers are located, for example, in Bastorf above behind the mayor's office or in Ost at the sports hall. Sauna We charge for the sauna according to the contractual agreement. The usual sauna rules apply, in particular please: towels everywhere underneath in the sauna, where the coveted sweat drips out or behind everything. Other problems If there are any other problems: Mr. Blöge (phone number hidden) or (phone number hidden) can usually help or call us: (phone number hidden) or (phone number hidden) or (phone number hidden) or (phone number hidden). So now enough of the tips, the rest you have to conquer yourself and if it's good, please recommend us. We also like to do something new every now and then. Kühlungsborn requires a donation for adults to use the beach, but not in Kägsdorf. Enjoy, relax and have fun in Bastorf!
