The Lodge at Tikana in central Southland is nestled among fertile southern hills which are home to a herd of majestic stud Wapiti deer. The tranquility of the rural setting is enhanced by the unique ambience of the straw bale construction. In its former life the Lodge catered to the needs of high end tourists traveling in Southland The Lodge was purpose built in 2003 by a craftsman builder with the juxtaposition of old and new blending seamlessly. The space Tikana is ideally suited for a couple but can accommodate four persons. The spacious atmosphere in the lodge encourages guests to indulge, be it the open fireplace, the double bath, super-king bed with Egyptian cotton linen or the surround sound home theatre system. The kitchenette has a fridge, microwave/oven and built-in expresso machine(coffee beans provided). An outside Weber BBQ is present for your use. Breakfast provisions include tea, milk, coffee, artisan granola, fresh seasonal fruit, greek yoghurt, toast and spreads. Guest access The Lodge is open plan but as we are single-party booking only - guests have the Lodge to themselves - very private and exclusive. Other things to note Tikana opens the Southland region for travelers to experience the real “untouched” New Zealand with a focus on soft adventure and eco-tourism. “Off the beaten track” experiences become a reality - wilderness jet boating through pristine native bush, daytrips to Stewart Island including rare New Zealand fauna on the Ulva Island sanctuary tour, tiger moth flights, fly fishing opportunities unparalleled in New Zealand, Catlins unique wildlife and petrified forest or take a helicopter to Doubtful Sound for lunch “on top of the world”.
