Description

This unique rural accommodation was originally a stone cow barn, built in the 1860s. The barn has been renovated into a minimalist, bright, airy space and is located on a small peninsula at the head of Roaring Water Bay in West Cork. It is at the end of an unpaved lane, surrounded by trees and fields where you can sink into a deep quiet. The space The barn is entirely private – just the sounds of birds (both sea and freshwater), a few cows, as well as the occasional call of seals – that sound like a caoineadh – from the small islands just offshore at night – the perfect place to “unplug” from the internet and e-mails. It is next to the main cottage (where we live), but behind it so you won’t be disturbed. The queen-size bed is made up with linen sheets and duvet. Guests have access to a private bathroom in the main cottage which is about ten steps on an uneven stone path from the barn. The barn is fully heated in colder months. There are coffee and tea-making facilities with a selection of organic coffees, black teas and herbal teas, including some from our garden. We offer a simple breakfast of organic dry cereals, organic fruits and yoghurt and bread for toast if you'd like. Please let us know of any specific dietary needs in advance. We're happy to accommodate. Guest access You are welcome to meander through our garden and small apple orchard. We keep two hives of honey bees in the garden and grow vegetables in a poly tunnel. Our holding is entirely organic. Note: There is no direct access to the sea from the Barn. The fields between the Barn and the sea are a part of a working farm, and the farmer would prefer the cows remain undisturbed. Other things to note The Barn at the End of the Lane has no Wifi. If you need Wifi, there are cafés that have it in the village (an 8 minute drive away); alternatively, if you need to do a bit of work there is high-speed internet service at the Ludgate Hub in Skibbereen, a 25-minute drive from here.
