Country house, Downhead, near Frome & Bruton

Manor Farm is well situated for all the area has to offer. Whether exploring or spending quiet time with friends and family, it's easy to switch off here and leave the outside world behind. Close to the towns of Frome, Shepton and Bruton, Manor Farm, originally a 12th century moated manor, was rebuilt in 1860, its a spacious, rustic and charming retreat, both indoors and out. The space The surrounding area is a magical mix of unspoilt countryside, picturesque villages, & charming market towns such as nearby Frome where you can browse the small, independent shops and eat delicious locally-sourced food. There's even a touch of cosmopolitan glamour to be had at nearby Babington House (under 10 mins in car), Hauser & Wirth art gallery in nearby Bruton or The Newt just beyond. Manor Farm is approx 40 mins south of Bath and is situated in a working farming area. There are lovely villages nearby; Mells (2 miles) is a favourite, as is the excellent pub there (The Talbot) and Walled Garden. The whole area provides ample opportunities for wonderful country walks, great views and wild swimming. This is a lovely part of the world - peaceful, gentle and tranquil - and our home seeks to emulate these same qualities. Guest access We are happy for you to use all areas of the house but we will lock one room. Please enjoy the gardens as well as the house which are left to grow naturally and organically, encouraging all manner of insects, birds and animals. Other things to note We are located near to a working riding school so please respect their privacy. As nature lovers, we give nature a loose reign; our small garden pond is a birthing place for great crested newts, toads and frogs so, despite its modest appearance, it's well-loved by animals and humans alike! The gardens are rich with insects and absolutely no chemicals are used. Please respect any wildlife that you may see whilst you're here.
