The frames of the interior gates are quite low. A little bit of history: The coal scratches were very early exploited in the open air at La Machine. Then under the impetus of Colbert the underground extraction began. The city takes its name from a machine imported from Belgium in the 18th century intended for the "descent to the bottom" of men, horses and materials. The mine was closed in 1974 after three centuries of operation. We call the people of the Machinois machine.
