Villa Maria, a little fairy-tale chateau in Alsace

Welcome to Villa Maria, our small fairy-tale chateau by the forest in Lauterbourg. It is your home away from home, with its own history and character, offering a calm retreat or a base between Karlsruhe and Strasbourg for exploring the Rhine Valley, Black Forest, and the Vosges. It’s a short 5-minute walk to the village bakeries for morning bread and 10 min to the lake & beach. Whether you are visiting as a couple, family or a group of ten, we hope you find it as welcoming and peaceful as we do. The space The house is about 140 sqm. over three floors, with two communicating, but separate bedrooms on the bottom floor with a bathroom and a small sauna. On the first floor, there is a kitchen, toilet, living room, dining room and both a covered (15 sqm winter garden) and uncovered (15 sqm) terrace. In the attic there is a sleeping loft (for 6 people), with a toilet. You have free wifi-access to high-speed internet, large screen TV, Apple TV, Alexa and access to a rather vast garden for relaxing, a BBQ and playing games. Other things to note There are beds for a group of up to 10 people, but please note the mix of single and double-beds as indicated here on Airbnb and that there is only one shower at the bottom floor. It also becomes a bit tight around the dining table with ten people. Please also note that it's an old Villa from about 1910, over three floors connected through a turning wooden staircase. It's thus not suited for people that don't like staircases, or think their children could get hurt, or for people that don't like other things that come with old houses (squeaky floors, limited sound insulation, unique floor plans, a bit of dust, some insects and actual living spiders ;-). If you have an electric car, you can use the standard outlet (no fast charging) for free on one of the pillars of the wood shed next to the parking. Bedlinen and one towel per person are provided. And as everyone asks about it: the coffee machine is a Nespresso. ;-) But there is also an old school filter machine. Guest access You have access to the complete house. We are only renting out the entire house to a single group. However, we are also renting out a smaller Guest House (La Mouette Rose) next to Villa Maria, and there is a shared parking, and parts of the garden are also shared. Other things to note Please also note that it is strictly prohibited to smoke in Villa Maria or in the winter garden. Smoking outdoors is fine, but you need to put all your cigarette butts into the bin, and not on the ground. Pets are generally not allowed. We have unfortunately had too many bad experiences with guests bringing their dogs, but we can do exceptions. To save the old wooden floors in the Villa, there is also a strict no shoes policy. We have unfortunately had guests that have not respected some of the House Rules, and there is therefore a 100€ penalty if any of the house rules is not followed. Please also note that we are renting out a smaller Guest House, also on Airbnb, next to Villa Maria, and the garden is partly shared between the two houses.
