Sandarusi House is a spacious, private 6-bedroom retreat (4 doubles & 2 twins) located about 7 km north of Diani, on Tiwi Beach. Set high on an old coral bed above the Indian Ocean, it offers sweeping views and a cooling sea breeze. All double rooms and one twin are en-suite. Bathrooms have hot water showers, soap, and fresh linen, bath, and beach towels. The house has direct access to a beautiful, secluded white-sand beach, perfect for children to explore rock pools and the reef. The space The house features six spacious bedrooms—four doubles and two twins—each with its own unique charm. All double rooms have en-suite bathrooms, as does one of the twin rooms. Designed for comfort and relaxation, the house offers multiple indoor and outdoor lounging areas. With generous rooms, wide verandahs, a lush garden, a pool set among ancient Baobab trees, and direct access to Tiwi Beach, it’s an ideal retreat for guests of all ages. Tiwi’s unspoilt beach and reef offer excellent swimming, snorkeling, windsurfing, fishing, and long beach walks. For nature lovers, Shimba Hills National Park—home to the rare Sable antelope—is just a short drive away. Guest access Sandarusi House is ideally located—about a 30-minute drive south of Mombasa (though travel time may vary depending on ferry traffic), 45 minutes from Moi International Airport, and just 20 minutes from Ukunda Airport, which offers direct flights to Nairobi and the Masai Mara. Diani Beach is a 25-minute drive away. Diani offers a range of shops, banks, restaurants, and leisure activities. The house is also within easy reach of stunning wildlife destinations, including Kisite–Mpunguti Marine Park & Reserve, Shimba Hills National Park, and even Tsavo National Park for day or overnight safaris. Other things to note WHAT'S INCLUDED IN THE RATE This is a self-catering home, but fully staffed for your comfort. A housekeeper is on hand daily to make beds, clean, and do laundry, while a private chef will shop for ingredients, prepare delicious meals, and take care of all the clearing up. Guests simply pay for the cost of ingredients — everything is prepared fresh to your preferences. FOOD & PROVISIONS One of the pleasures of staying here is the abundance of fresh, local ingredients. Local fishermen regularly bring freshly caught seafood—such as sea fish, prawns, and shellfish—straight to the house. At the end of the road, Mohammed runs a well-stocked stall with a vibrant selection of seasonal coastal fruits and vegetables. He is happy to deliver directly to the house—just give him a call with your request. Our chef is available to assist with all food purchases, including negotiating with fishermen and local vendors on your behalf. He can also take care of shopping, menu planning, and preparing meals tailored to your preferences. For a wider range of groceries and household items, we recommend Naivas or Muthaiga Mini Market in Diani Beach. Some stores offer phone-in ordering and delivery—details are provided in the house welcome guide. There are also some a selection of restaurants in Diani Beach. For a treat we can highly recommend stopping at Leonardo’s an Italian ice cream shop. Air Access You can fly into either Ukunda Airstrip (Diani) or Moi International Airport (Mombasa). We recommend flying to Ukunda, as it’s closest to Sandarusi House—just a 20-minute drive away. Several airlines offer daily flights to Ukunda from Nairobi, including AirKenya, Jambojet, and Safarilink. Ukunda also has direct connections to the Masai Mara, making it easy to combine a beach holiday with a safari. Mombasa Airport is served by many regional and international airlines. From there, it’s approximately a 45-minute drive to Sandarusi House, including a scenic drive south along the coast. We’re happy to help arrange reliable airport transfers with trusted local taxi drivers. While car hire is available, it’s not essential—taxis are readily available and affordable in the area.
