Basement makes for a good “suite” w/ Couch or air mattress. AC & furnace, wood stove, stocked kitchen & good WiFi. The space *Driving can be hazardous at the two steep sections of driveway. There are 2 full bathrooms, nice kitchen, furnace, central air conditioning, and wood stove. The living room has a sleeper sofa and basement has a comfortable bed height air mattress if needed. Springs, small stream, and a pond sit below the cabin. The small cabin is being renovated this year, it’s not priced in to the reservation but may be available summer 2023 for a small addition charge.(never to a separate group) The kitchen is well stocked, dishes, utensils, cookware, basic breakfast ingredients stocked: coffee, pancake mix, syrup. The well water has been tested annually, always good result. Dogs are welcome, $150 deposit required, it’s paid AS the pet fee, then refunded through the app based on additional cleaning requirements *ask for details* We use furniture covers for them and have an amazing caretaker, never had a complaint about previous dogs. There's very low traffic count and low speeds on the gravel road. No neighbors in view, feels very secluded but only a 1/2 mile off highway. High speed fiber internet. Natural springs form a small stream that supply the pond. Enjoy them from the fire pit and lawn furniture. Abundant wildlife, including deer, turkey, squirrels and many types of birds. Reads Creek is just a short walk down the road for great small stream trout fishing. It’s on the neighbor’s property so respect them and trespassing laws. I know the local streams well but they’re also continuously changing. I’m available to assist with planning, supply flies, and possibly guide or rent gear for fly or spin fishing. The neighboring horse ranch does riding tours through the woods or down the road, talk to Lori at Three Witches Stables Our location is close to the small town of Readstown. Check out the farmers market, flea markets and antique shops just down the road. Viroqua is a bigger town, about a 10 minute drive, with shops and dinning, also Walmart, Walgreens and fast food. Lots of outdoor activities to do in the Driftless area and this is right in the heart of it. A beautiful 20 mile drive to some of the best small river canoeing in the midwest on the Kickapoo River, through Wildcat State Park is a must, it’s known as the windiest river in the world. Check out the wineries, brewery, Amish markets and apple orchards too. Take a day trip to La Crosse or Prairie Du Chien or across the Mississippi to Iowa’s Yellow River State Park or Effigy Mounds National Monument. There are attractions along the drive, we know the ones coming from Iowa, we prefer to take the route through Prairie Du Chien for the scenery, it’s worth a bit longer trip. Field of Dreams could be on route too. If you’re coming from IL, WI or MN please let us know what interesting spots you find along the way. Guest access Access with the keyless door knob at the back door, code will be provided. Inside the main cabin, except utility room and garage. The small cabin is not accessible(Spring 2020 project) Make a clockwise loop around the cabin, easiest to unload from back, main floor door. From crossing of the creek and driveway, the property line is about 100 yards either direction and half way up the ridge behind the cabin. There are some clearings that look like trails but are utility easements, please respect the boundaries and neighbors land. Other things to note *We recommend and prefer 3 nights minimum stay. 2 nights is an option for a 10% premium. 10% discount for a week long stay. *Snow and ice will pose an issue. There will be slick and dangerous driving and walking conditions on the property. 4x4 or AWD is recommended in the winter months. My wife's subaru had no issue with a few inches of snow, my front wheel drive Explorer struggled, my FWD van does ok. The problem is a couple steep sections in the driveway. You may get snowed in temporarily, we will try to coordinate with you and the plowing service before a storm but can not guarantee instant clearing. We will have it plowed up to two times or every other day. Any additional plowing would be an additional fee at the provider's rate of $50.
