A quaint double room on the 1st floor of the Heritage home with compact double bed. This room ‘chabuttro’ means "bird feeder " in Gujarati. The room over looks the community space ‘Sheri with a jain temple ‘ A small study at the ground floor from the central courtyard makes way to the room. The stair case from study to the room is a reminder of the old way of life. The large external bathroom at the ground floor has a dress and is convenient to use. The space ‘The French Haveli’ is an 150 year old, artistically restored Gujarati heritage home. It is a thrill of drama and colours and homeliness. Maintaining its splendid traditional structure, the ‘Haveli’ offers a unique experience of living in the historic community called the ‘Pol’. Living in this house is to experience the Gujarati culture with comfort and luxury. The quaint Double Room, called ‘Chabuttro’ means birdfeeder in Gujarati. It overlooks the community space with views of a wooden bird feeder and a Jain temple. Located on the first floor, the room offers three sides of open views, enhancing the experience of being connected to the surroundings. One enters the room through a small private study on the ground floor, accessed from the courtyard, and climbs up a small set of stairs — a nod to the old way of life. The room comes with a dedicated large blue-themed toilet with a bath and dressing area, located on the ground floor. While the toilet is outside the room, it remains easily accessible and designed to provide maximum convenience and comfort. Guest access As a guest at the French Haveli, you not only have access to the quaint double room, but you are also welcomed into our traditional Gujarati wooden home, offering a home away from home experience. Our dedicated housekeepers ensure that your stay is comfortable and memorable. Upon entering the house, you step into the ground floor lounge, featuring the central courtyard adorned with a traditional swing called Jhula. This courtyard, open to the sky, allows natural light and air to fill the space, creating a serene atmosphere. The courtyard has a rainwater collection chamber known as “tanka" and a water station with earthen pots called "Paniyara" , a quintessential feature of Gujarati homes. Here, you can immerse yourself in Gujarati culture, relax, and spend leisurely moments. The lounge area provides comfortable seating, perfect for reading or simply waiting. Moving to 1st floor , the dining table area, you’ll find a cozy space where you can enjoy freshly prepared meals made with ingredients sourced from the local markets. During the day, this dining area transforms into a convenient workspace, allowing you to attend to your tasks while enjoying the view of the central courtyard through the windows. One of the highlights of the French Haveli is undoubtedly the illuminated chowk, or central courtyard. The stone floor, cool to the touch, draws its refreshing feel from the underground tanka, designed to store rainwater for the hot Ahmedabad summer months. Guests often find themselves drawn to the Jhula overlooking the entrance, a characteristic feature of old Gujarati homes. This spot is ideal for engaging in lively conversations or finding quite solace with a good book. One can do the various heritage walks, explore the neighbourhood walking , visit the restored havelis, do the city tours, try the gujrati culinary.
