Palazzo del Magnifico (Palace of the Magnificent)
Palazzo del Magnifico B&B
Description
The B&B is located in the heart of Siena, adjacent to the Baptistery of the Duomo and a short walk from Piazza del Campo. The apartment, with its fine frescoes, is located in a sixteenth-century building and houses 5 rooms with a private bathroom and a large common room. The space The Palazzo del Magnifico is located in a strategic position, ideal for exploring the city from a historical-cultural point of view, shopping and enjoying the lively city nightlife. Majestically overlooking Via dei Pellegrini, its original façade was decorated with bells and refined bronze bracelets, now preserved in the Palazzo Pubblico. Continuing, you skirt Piazza San Giovanni, where the imposing Baptistery stands, whose unfinished black and white marble façade dominates the evocative square. The Palazzo is located on the right side of the Baptistery and continues up the famous staircase of San Giovanni, which leads to the north wall of the "Duomo Nuovo". Legend has it that on this staircase, the patron saint of Siena, Italy and co-patron of Europe, was pushed by the devil and fell on one of the steps, now marked by a cross. Opposite the side portal that opens onto Piazza Duomo, there is a characteristic square, where the entrance to the "Palazzo del Magnifico" Bed and Breakfast is located. After a careful internal renovation, the large apartment on the main floor, with an entrance in the square in front of the Side Portal of the New Cathedral, has been adapted to accommodate guests in an environment of absolute tranquility, immersed in history. The B&B offers a large common room of about 50 square meters, divided into a reception area and breakfast area, where guests can spend convivial moments or work. From the common room you can access four bedrooms: two large and bright, overlooking Piazza San Giovanni and the Baptistery, and two more intimate and quiet, overlooking the internal courtyard of the building. In addition, there is another large room with a separate entrance, also overlooking the Baptistery. Guest access The large entrance hall houses a small reception, relaxation corner, as well as the breakfast room. Here, our guests can access and spend their time sitting in the common room, sipping hot tea and tasting delicious homemade cookies. During your stay Upon your arrival, I will be present to welcome you and provide you with all the necessary information to ensure a pleasant stay. Although I do not reside in the property, I am always available for any need. Other things to note The Palazzo del Magnifico was the residence of Pandolfo Petrucci, a cunning and intelligent man who became a sort of "lord of the city" for Siena from 1487 to 1512, earning the title of "the Magnificent" for his work of pacification between the city factions, inspired by the figure of Lorenzo the Magnificent. The Palazzo was commissioned by Pandolfo Petrucci in 1508, designed by Giacomo Cozzarelli and built by Domenico di Bartolomeo, becoming one of the most sumptuous residences of the time, furnished by the most important artists present in Siena at the end of the 15th century. Today only the architectural structure remains, as furnishings and decorations were dismantled during the nineteenth century and are now kept in the most important city and foreign museums. Of particular importance was the main hall located on the main floor, which the Magnificent had decorated by prominent artists such as Pinturicchio, Luca Signorelli and Girolamo Genga. Currently, part of the ceiling is kept at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
