The HE-JA is a cargo ship that has been taken out of service since 2015 and converted into a houseboat. The ship is located in the Eastern Harbour area about 10 minutes from the city centre. A fantastic place. In summer, you can jump right off the deck for a swim, so bring your swimming trunks. We supply our ship with sustainable energy through: solar panels and heat pump. We appreciate it if our guests take this into account. The space The deckhouse, the original skipper's residence, has been converted into a studio with a shower and toilet (without door). The studio has a kitchenette with a refrigerator, an espresso machine and a kettle. There is a separate two-burner induction stove, a small oven and a microwave. And there will be a base of coffee, tea, sugar, pepper and salt. In addition, there are also a number of cleaning supplies for hands, including: kitchen roll, disposable gloves, all-purpose cleaner, antibacterial hand gel and hand soap. You can sit outside on the roof of the deckhouse, on your own simple terrace. The entrance of the ship is used by both the guests and we as a family. From the wheelhouse there is access to the studio. Since it is a steel ship, the acoustics are different than in a normal house or hotel. You will therefore hear our family coming aboard the ship. Guest access You can park in our street, although it is very expensive. It is better to reserve a parking place at, for example, Parkbee or park via P+R Zeeburg. Other things to note As mentioned, our house is in an old freighter that has it's charms, but it is also different from a "normal" house. Our toilets are connected to the sewer, but the drainage goes through a pump that is located in the engine room. This means that you can't flush anything other than regular toilet paper into the toilet. So do not flush sanitary towels or tampons in the toilet because this will certainly clog the pump. After flushing or showering, the drain pump turns on. The toilets in the hold are connected to the sewer, but are flushed with water that comes directly from the canal.
