Description

Gt Barrier Island - Beachfront holiday home with panoramic coastal views. Only 37 steps to magnificent golden sand Medlands Beach. Architectually designed open plan living area with views of the coastline up to Arid Island and down to Shark Alley. Enjoy this and spectacular sunrises from the first floor which can be completely opened to the environment. Extensive sun-drenched decks allow for complete relaxation beside the bbq. The space Part of Great Barrier Island's charm is that it is 'off the grid' - no mains power. Our house is well set up with solar power, tank water, and a septic waste system (with a flush toilet!) The hot water & the oven/hob is on gas, the fridge/freezer is solar powered. Guest access The entire house is yours to use, although there is a locked garage and utility sheds / area that are not part of the rental. With open plan living upstairs and downstairs opening onto sun drenched decks you will love this relaxing space. Bask in the sun during the day or stargaze the "Dark Sky Sanctuary" in the evenings. The double bedrooms open onto the decks via large sliding doors the one upstairs is fully lined with local cedar and has sensational views up and down the coast. Unlike many houses on Barrier ours has a full size fridge / freezer so you are not limited re food storage. There is a gas webber BBQ or large 6 burner gas stove and oven to cook on. Linen is not provided but can be hired. Many guests who are coming by ferry choose to bring their own linen. Hire Linen is $35 PP per stay, due to the fact that cleaning linen is not an easy process on GBI as there are no dry cleaners and our house is off the grid. Other things to note As with all houses on Great Barrier we are on Solar Power, tank water and septic Tank. This adds to the charm of the place and also has enabled the island to gain the status of one of the few Dark Sky Sanctuaries of the world. Given these scarce resources we ask that our guests are environmentally conscious when using the place. Solar batteries can only sustain so much use, therefore lights should only be left on in areas in use, showers kept to a short duration and no chemicals to be put down the drains. During winter months May to October we will endeavour to make firewood available otherwise it is easy to collect should you wish to use the fire at other times.
