The CWTCH, "Hut" in a Hall.

A Budget (own sleeping bag) wilderness style hut, inside an old hall, on the southern edge of World Heritage Wilderness Area Fiordland National Park. Nzs newest Great Walk the Hump Ridge Track starts here. Bars, cafes and take-aways are only 1 minutes walk. Within an easy half days travel of NZs premier tourist attractions. Please use the local cafe's/shops, it helps our town survive! Friends, family and other hiking guests share communal spaces but use separate bedroom and bathroom. The space A bunkroom modelled after a wilderness hut so iconic in NZs Back Country. The bathroom is in a separate building a few meters away which adds to the authenticity of the experience. A cosy lounge and your own entrance to come and go as you please. You have access to a large communal dining and lounge area as well as the small lounge space by your room. Your host also encourages you to join him in his space, with library, musical instruments and a sunny warm covered porch where you are welcome to read, doze, enjoy a drink and chat. The bunkroom is run like the backcountry hut it is modelled after so YOU NEED TO PROVIDE YOUR OWN SLEEPING BAG/ BEDDING. Just imagine you are in a hut in the wilderness but that you have a hot shower and flush toilet and you will know what you are getting. The room and bathroom is yours when you book whether you are 1 or 4. You dont share it with anyone other than your own group. Ideal for those who are looking for budget accommodation before heading off on a hiking adventure in southern Fiordland. I have written a guide book for hiking in the area and it is available to guests. I am also able to answer all your questions about getting out into our wonderful wilderness. Guest access Access is to the bunkroom, lounge and bathroom and garden . You are requested to eat out in one of the good food outlets available within a minutes walk. (this also helps support the small community). There is a cooking bench and an outside table you are welcome to use if you have your own stove etc. There is a commercial Laundromat on site and your host is happy for you to share his kitchen if he's home. (Cooking with your host is done on a wood fire.) Other things to note I often host woofers or Te Araroa thru hikers who have their own bedroom and bathroom but who share the communal spaces. I encourage all my guests to be friendly and enjoy meeting and conversing with each other.
