Description
Our genuine Mongolian yurt with ornate hand-carved frame, rock wool insulation and waterproof cover offers tranquillity, comfort and beauty in one. It is built on its own platform with pine flooring which gives our guests a wonderful sense of space. You'll probably have the space to yourself as we try to provide for one group at a time; however, there may be others staying in our shepherd's hut at the start or end of your stay. The space You will be in a part of our garden which is peaceful and secluded, accessed via its own bridge over a delightful stream which runs close by the yurt. There is a fire pit and wood to collect so you can really get back to nature! It's not an endless supply so we do appreciate it when guests buy wood if they intend burning a lot. Over the stream but near to the yurt there is a composting toilet in its own building with a lovely outdoor heated shower. This facility is shared with our shepherd's hut which is in a separate area of the garden and has its own bridge. The camp kitchen is basic: there is a 2-ring camping gas stove (you are welcome to bring a bbq) plus basic kitchen utensils and you can always ask to borrow something if we haven't provided it. We do not provide any cooking ingredients (such as oil, salt and pepper). You might like to bring your own cool box and ice packs and use our freezer to keep these frozen. The stream does make quite a good fridge, especially for beers! We'll fill a container with water for you but there is no tap near the yurt. The yurt area is all off-grid so we respectfully ask guests to be mindful of the water and power that they use. Guest access Our house is just up the driveway and you can have access to a fridge and sink in our studio (separate to the house) as well as sockets if you need them - although there is facility to charge a phone in the yurt (off a solar powered battery). As stated, there is no electricity at the yurt - the lighting we provide runs off the battery. We aim to leave a torch for you but do suggest you come equipped for camping as well. Other things to note Our gate is not very wide although vans can get in - just take care! We have other accommodation (sleeps two) on site in a separate area - about 100 yards away downstream and separated by trees. So you need to know that there may be other guests using our shepherd's hut and that although neighbours are not close, there might be other people around. Beds comprise one double which will be made up with sheet, duvet and pillows plus a small double futon mattress for use on the floor (approx 4ft wide/5.5ft long when folded out). You will need to bring your own sleeping bags/duvet and pillows if planning on using the futon. Please note that it does get cold in the middle of the night, however warm the weather - so extra jumpers and blankets are always a good idea! If you are bringing a dog, please bring a dog basket; please try to keep your dog off the bedding as it is a nightmare getting rid of hair! We have chickens and cats so it is appreciated if dogs don't scare the life out of them! Please note: we do not supply any personal towels so you will need to bring your own hand, bath and beach towels. There is a small gas heater in the yurt to keep you cosy on those cold nights - not to be left on overnight or for long periods of time though! It can get very cold overnight and first thing in the morning so popping the heater on for half an hour before 'retiring' in the evening helps, or first thing in the morning before venturing out.
