An art and garden lover's hideaway
Description
Thoughtfully designed cottage, part of owner's main house but self-contained when guests are staying. Lake to the rear, mountains out front. Comfortable bedroom with ensuite bathroom, 3D home cinema/living room, cathedral ceiling and wood burning stove. Bathe outside in your own hot tub overlooking the lake. Kitchen, with spacious conservatory. You'll find everything included to make your stay safe, easy and comfortable. Safe and private. The space One of the most intimate and aesthetically absorbing small homes in Northern Ireland, it is actually 2 adjacent houses that were joined as one in 2000 by a small link area and door that enables each side to be private when needed. Outside you will find a colourful wildlife-friendly garden (winner of Belfast telegraph small country garden prize); inside you may be intrigued by the hand-painted furniture, gold leaf decoration and unpredictable colour schemes. If you are looking for a formula, this is not the place! If you enjoy art, peace, gardens and nature, you will love it here. As a bonus, you can watch movies on the 8' screen in your own cinema (huge dvd/Blu-ray collection inc 3D movies - active glasses provided, quality is on a par with cinema) and bathe in the privacy of your own outdoor hot tub, heated to 39 degrees (NB advance notice needed and subject to additional payment of £30 per week (or part of) to cover starting and running costs. Hot tub use any time but no later than 10.30pm.) For those interested in wildlife, butterflies and bees abound in summer, and the pond is heaving with newts. The garden is planted with wildlife friendly plants, trees, and roses. In June, there’s Laburnum blossom, and wisteria wraps right around the house, with oriental poppies too. But there is always something in flower most of the year. It is always in motion and needs a lot of work. Hot water in the house is supplied by solar panels, at least when it's sunny. We rarely have to use the alternative oil heating between April and October. Breakfast materials to get you started - (fresh home-made bread, butter, eggs, milk, porridge) are provided when you arrive. In August and September you might get some cucumber and tomatoes from the greenhouse. You are welcome to cook whatever you like in the kitchen. There is a gas hob + an air fryer and also microwave and good pots/utensils as well as a dishwasher, fridge, toaster, cafetiere, etc. The kitchen is well equipped. We like to provide basics like oils, sugar, teas, ground coffee etc so you don't need to bring these things. Guest access The cottage is accessed by its own gated drive to the lane (though you will need to reverse out, there is no turning area, hence need for care, especially manoeuvring through the entrance gate). You can totally secure the house when you go out. I will usually be around anyway. Other things to note The house is not really suitable for children. Occasionally I have had very young babies stay, but the decor is very vulnerable and it would not be fair to restrain toddlers to the extent that would be needed. It is really a place that suits couples. High speed internet access is always on (choice of wired ethernet or wifi). A cat resides in my house and is kept separate unless you'd like her to have access. A day’s notice needed usually for hot tub, plus £30 payment per week or part of for use during your stay. This covers start up and running costs, we clean the filters after each use. A drying frame and iron and board and are available.
