Description

This mini 1 bedroom house was our trial run in building our main home using passive house principles. We are approx 1 km from the centre of Westbury in a rural location. (You may be lucky enough to sight some of our local wildlife during your stay! ) The cottage is suitable for a couple, however the extra single bed does enable some flexibility for guests.(i.e. if you wish to use both beds, please book for 3 people.) We provide a library of information about sustainability for guest perusal. The space We have been interested in sustainable architecture and design since the 70s and have finally managed to realise our vision of creating an ecologically friendly homestead, using double glazed windows and a German-designed breathable membrane with ducted air system in the walls and ceiling of the buildings to maximise thermal efficiency and reduce our carbon footprint. The cottage has long and short garden vistas from every window. The structure of the 6 acre (2.5 hectare) garden commenced after 2015 and is continually progressing. Over 600 trees have been planted ( maples being a favourite!) hedges placed to create sections, sculpture placed for impact, small fruit section, espalier fruit trees, walled garden to extend growing season, labyrinth and the dam is now attracting water birds. Our wet areas are now a great frog habitat and growing shrubs are drawing small birds. The garden peaks in November, but there is something to see in every season. The number of deciduous trees planted has resulted in an impressive autumn display and the summer house is a pleasant place to catch the breeze on a hot afternoon. Guest access Guests are welcome to share the garden and enjoy the increasing variety of wild life. The 12 acre property was bought as a paddock and is still in the process of being developed. We have planted windbreaks and the landscaping is in process. There is a designated parking area for the cottage. Other things to note An inflatable toddler mattress is available if required. If guests wish to cook for themselves, there are complimentary herbs and vegetables, subject to seasonal availability. We are perfectly situated for access to Agfest and Deloraine Craft Fair. Registration Details Exempt: This listing falls under the 'home sharing' exemption
