Description

Charming 1713 thatched cottage in Kenilworth’s historic Old Town. Overlooks the 68-acre Abbey Fields and close to Kenilworth Castle. Beautifully restored for modern living, sleeping up to 4 guests. Walk to pubs, cafés, and the Michelin-starred Cross restaurant. Perfect base for Warwick, Leamington Spa, Stratford-upon-Avon and the NEC. Peaceful setting – no parties or events allowed. Please note: a minimum stay of 2 nights applies. No parties or events allowed. The space Lake View Cottage is the epitome of a quintessential English thatched cottage, set on the grounds of an Ancient Monument in Kenilworth’s beautiful Old Town. The entire heritage thatched cottage is where guests can enjoy the privacy of two bedrooms, two bathrooms, kitchen / diner and lounge. From both bedrooms you can enjoy spectacular views over the lake and the 68-acre Abbey Fields Nature Reserve, while the garden offers a stunning outlook toward Kenilworth Castle. The cottage’s rear wall dates back to the 12th century, once part of the original Abbey perimeter wall and now a Scheduled Monument. Inside, you’ll find exposed beams, original features, and timeless charm, lovingly combined with modern comfort. Lake View Cottage is cosy and well equipped: Kitchen: fully fitted, with dining table seating four. Lounge: rich in period character with exposed beams and a flat-screen Smart TV. Two Bedrooms: each with beams, built-in wardrobes, and breathtaking views. Two Bathrooms: with a two-person spa bath and overhead rain shower, and another with a modern walk-in shower. Guest access Guests have use of the entire cottage and its private garden, which enjoys beautiful views across Abbey Fields Nature Reserve. It’s a peaceful spot to sit with a coffee or evening drink and watch the light change over the water. Please take care when the decking is wet, as it can be slippery. This is a historic thatched cottage, full of character and original features, but it may not be suitable for everyone. The stairs are narrow with low headroom, and there are low beams throughout — please mind your head. The slate floors are hard underfoot, and for this reason, the cottage is not suitable for young children, babies, or guests with mobility difficulties. Free on-street parking is available nearby, and access is via a key safe, making check-in simple and flexible. The cottage is within a short walk of Kenilworth Castle, Abbey Fields, and the many cafés, pubs, and restaurants of Kenilworth Old Town. Other things to note Located in a conservation area, the cottage is with a short walk of independent shops, cafes and restaurants. After taking in the beautiful surroundings you can relax in the two person spa bath, before deciding where to eat for dinner. Why not spoil yourself and try The Cross our local Michelin star restaurant located on New Street. The cottage is a quiet retreat for up to 4 people where time stands still. Parties or events are not accepted nor children under 6 years old. Historic Note: The Cottage is in the old hamlet of Little Virginia. Originally the cottage housed the stone masons builders employed by Robert Dudley for works on Kenilworth Castle in 1560s. The tradition that the first potatoes brought to England were planted in Little Virginia by Sir Walter Raleigh. Kenilworth Castle was founded during the Norman conquest of England (11th century); with development through to the Tudor period. The rear wall of the cottage is thought to be part of the Old Abbey Wall built in 12th century. The cottage wall and garden is registered as a Scheduled Monument.
