Description

‘The Hideout’ nestled amongst the beech trees, 10 minutes walk from the road, is a spacious, beautiful, warm, open-plan living space. It has a double bed tucked into its own nook, a log burning stove, sofas, camping style cooking facilities and a covered verandah. It is entirely hidden and secluded and your only neighbours will be the wildlife. There is a compost loo and a stream for bracing washes. Bring a torch and retreat from everything - A Bear Grylls with frills experience! The space The cabin is warm, comfortable and equipped with camping essentials but the peace and quiet of this secret spot comes minus some mod-cons. You have to walk up a slope 10-15 minutes into the woods to get there - so dress accordingly! You will need to boil water to wash your pots, use solar powered batteries with reserve and minimise the waste you create by thinking carefully about what you take into the woods with you. Wandering around the woods will be dark at night, be prepared! There are no tiled showers, no on-tap hot water, no wifi, (though phone signal is surprisingly good) no cafe… AND no neighbours… However, you can cook on an open fire, read the latest bestseller with your feet up, whittle a spoon, sketch the wildlife or just stay in bed all day. You can of course come out of the woods and enjoy all that the local area has to offer too – The Grampus, the bay for a paddle or off to Ilfracombe or Woolacombe. In winter, you will need to get the woodburning stove going to warm things up. The cabin is well insulated so maintains warmth well, but be aware if you are arriving late, you may need to get things cosy before you bed down! Firelighters are provided. Bags of wood are on the verandah at £5 a bag and a kindling axe is provided. You are welcome to scavenge for fallen wood too. It will also likely be muddy in the woods in winter, please bring wellies or walking boots - and thick socks or slippers are useful for inside! Guest access The cabin is hidden in a beech woods which will be entirely your domain for your stay - exept for wandering deer and foxes. Other things to note In view of the cleaning protocols necessary in light of Covid, we have decided to request that visitors bring their own towels to the cabin. If there are two or you who are not sharing the double bed, please bring a sleeping bag for use on the sofa - or message if you would like us to provide an extra duvet. Please note this is wild glamping. You will need a torch - there are no lighted routes into the woods - though we have put a battery powered light in the loo! Take care not to leave it on and drain the batteries however. Likewise - the lighting in the cabin is also solar powered and limited - please use with care. There is scope for plugging in a phone/laptop for charging - again as long as the power lasts. It is quite a slope up to the site - so if you don't much like walking, pack light! However, you will be rewarded when you arrive. You can have an outside fire and cook over it if you like. Please just exercise obvious caution.
