Description
Stay amongst the Scottish hills and lochs in The Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park. Our private, no pets, one bedroom bothy is a cosy haven settled in Balquhidder Glen. Enjoy the wildlife as Deer, Red Squirrel, Pheasants and wild Rabbits will be your neighbours. Climb the many mountains in the area, some within walking distance of our front door or explore the local walks. Visit the grave of Rob Roy MacGregor or curl up infront of our woodburning stove with some hot cocoa and a good book. The space Our Bothy is a converted wooden out-building on the edge of a woodland looking onto one of the oldest and tallest Noble Fir trees in Balquhidder Glen. This is where the name Craobh Mòr Bothy came from meaning “Big Tree”. We sit on the south side of Balquhidder Glen just a few minutes walk from the head of Loch Voil and one of the most beautiful views in the area looking up the Glen towards Inverlochlarig. The Bothy is a no pet space because of the red squirrels which live in these trees close by. There is a cosy double bedroom with a king size bed that has storage underneath and French doors that open out onto a wooden decking area, with outside table and chairs. The living room with kitchenette also has French doors and windows onto the decking so if you are lucky you may be able to breakfast with the red squirrels! They love to jump between the trees and eat the nuts from the bird feeders. The kitchenette has all you will need to prepare a meal with a domino induction hob, a combination microwave oven with grill, toaster, kettle and a fridge with freezer compartment. The L shaped sofa is comfy and inviting, well placed to enjoy the warmth from the wood burning stove and has extra pillows , blanket and the cushions for the outside chairs in its hidden compartment underneath. There are plenty of DVDs ,books and board games for you to use and the small wall mounted smart TV can be used to watch Netflix/Amazon Prime, if you want to sign into your account. There is also a shower room with large shower, toilet and sink unit and a heated towel rail. The Bothy is well placed for exploring the National park, enjoying the clean air, peace and tranquility of the area or as a stop over on your way to the highlands. Guest access Guests will have access to the entire bothy and the outside decking to the front and the back that looks onto the big tree. Our property is the white house near-by but it’s position is such that it provides privacy for both ourselves and our guests. The woodland is also available for guests to explore but our garden to the front of the house is private. Or, there is a Co-op in Killin, also 25 min drive away. However ,if you are staying longer than a couple of days, “The Handy Shop” in Comrie delivers groceries every Tuesday and Friday if you phone the day before. The Comrie butcher also delivers on a Thursday if you order on a Wednesday. Both these can be found on line. The village of Strathyre is about a short 10 min drive from us and has an award winning café, The Broch ( closed over Jan /Feb ), two pubs, two hotels and a village shop/post office with limited selection of groceries. Basic amenities will be provided such as milk, tea, sugar, coffee, drinking chocolate, cooking oil, salt, pepper, dish towels, washing up liquid and cleaning materials. Hand sanitiser, anti-bacterial wipes and spray and disposable gloves will also be provided. We will provide a basket of wood, if you would like more you can purchase it at Mhor in Store at the entrance to the Glen ,the village shop in Strathyre or various places in Callander one being Feeds and Stoves near the traffic lights. If guests have a heart pace-maker they are advised not to use the induction hob as it may interfere with it. Extra care must be taken in wet weather when using the decking area as it may become slippy. The area for parking is shared with our car but there is a dedicated space for Craobh Mòr within this area so if you could park in this space in front of the sign it would be much appreciated.
