Bright Star Campground has many amenities. It is located in the shadow of Mesa Verde Nat'l Park only 5 miles from Main St, Cortez!. It's a spacious Campground. The Chapel has electricity, provides shade & some wind protection. We have Camping Cabins, Tipis, a community KITCHEN, & hot showers. Dog-friendly. (3 dog maximum, more allowed for groups, contact us for larger group rates at BrightStarCampground . This unique site is a covered pavilion & enclosed but open air structure to pitch tents or Hammocks inside.. (we can rent you 2 Hammocks). It can also be used for special event space. It is the best dog-friendly site. It provides protection from the elements on occasional rainy days as well as shade! A fire pit is located outside this Pavillion. Up to 3 people are included in the nightly base rate of $65 - $75. An amenity fee of $14 per night for additional guests is required. Maximum number of guests for the Chappel is 15 & 6 small Tent max. (See Chapel 8-16 listing for more than 7 people). Pet fee one-time $10 for entire stay. (Please include in reservation) Dogs must be on leash EXCEPT when in the Chapel. The Chapel camping is a favorite among our guests! The campground has a “quiet time” of 11:00 PM – 8:00 AM. Kitchen & Pavilion open 24/7 with complimentary coffee, tea, filtered drinking water, dishwashing station, a fridge/freezer, cooking appliances and dishes for our campers. For large groups (over 5) we recommend bringing some paper plates & plastic utensils, we have a limited amount and that is a lot of dishwashing. Our sink has a small instant hot water heater. Please see all the photos of the campground and the amenities provided. We keep it dark with minimal lights for optimal star gazing. Guests have access to a well-stocked kitchen, HOT showers, very nice pit toilets with running water sinks, a playground and an observation deck. The Dining Pavilion is a popular chill spot with games, etc. that many guests enjoy. Please do not leave trash that exceeds what our trash cans hold. They are emptied daily. We'll greet you in person then leave you to chill in privacy. If you need anything, just text and we'll be available. We're in a rural residential area where lots are large- 40+ acres generally, so its not really a neighborhood. We're happy to give you the local's only hook-up to find hikes, ruins, swimming holes, lakes/rivers, hot springs, tacos, coffee, cannabis, a spot to rent kayaks, bikes- you name it! Just ask. There are so many things to do/see nearby: Mesa Verde National Park, Canyons of the Ancients, Hovenweep National Monument and Phil's World. Or raft down the Dolores river, maybe rent an SUP or kayak and chill on a quiet reservoir. There are several museums and cultural centers in the area as well that truly help set the context for your visit to the area. We are located just outside of Cortez on a county maintained, surfaced gravel road. You really need a vehicle to get the full Colorado experience as public transportation is scarce...and the land, vast! Durango and Telluride are each about hour away, and Moab is about 2.5 hours away-including Arches and Canyonlands National parks. The nearest international airport is in Albuquerque. Denver is a full 8 hour drive away. Bright Star Campground is in an arid desert climate and conservation is key. Water is stored in cisterns for use in camp. Because of this we ask that you be mindful of water use in the sinks (don’t leave water running when brushing teeth, etc) but do enjoy a hot shower and the bathroom sinks for washing hands, etc. We also have free dishwashing in the kitchen, an ice machine and filtered drinking water for limited use.
