Guest access As above plus there is a washing machine in a farm shed opposite the front door, labelled Laundry. This is shared with the farmers so expect some mud on the floor and possible lamb feeding equipment and other farm bits and bobs in there too at various times of the year. There is a tumble dryer for your use in the Wool Shed which is at the far end of the farm yard. Guests are very welcome to walk in the hills around the farm. We have excellent fishing for wild brown trout and pike fishing on Loch Awe. There is a wooden pier where we keep our boat a 10 minute walk from the cottage which has a home made basic bbq area you are welcome to use. It is a good place to swim from. Other things to note Achlian Cottage is a lovingly preserved 18th-century stone cottage featured in The Ancient Houses of Argyll. Originally a humble single-room home with an adjoining cattle byre, the cottage still holds echoes of its past — from the thick, sturdy stone walls to the original low cattle door visible near the bathroom. Today, Achlian Cottage is cozy and comfortable, with light-filled rooms adorned with traditional tongue-and-groove wooden walls crafted from trees grown and milled on the farm. Please note, Achlian Cottage is still part of a working farm. If you are sensitive to farm life — including the odd tractor rumbling past, lambs being fed in the shed, the occasional cobweb, dings and dents and imperfections of an old home — this may not be the ideal setting. There is a washing machine and tumble dryer on site, they are not in the cottage itself, but in sheds in the farmyard. There are swallows nesting in the sheds, and an resident owl, and although we try to keep on top of their habits, sometimes the ping pong table in the Wool Shed needs us to give it an extra clean. You might also be greeted by our hens or dogs who will wander by in search of treats and will need a gentle shooing. The weather here can be wonderfully unpredictable — be prepared for sun, wind, rain, and sunshine again, often within a single day. We recommend packing a coat and sturdy walking boots for hill adventures, and swimwear to take full advantage of a truly restorative swim in the loch below the cottage. With the owners on site tap into their vast local knowledge which they love to share, Achlian Cottage is the perfect base to experience the authentic rural beauty and rich history of Argyll.
