No 21 - room to relax, Colombo
If you are relaxing after travelling, acclimatising to Sri Lanka's heat and humidity, or wanting a quiet base from which to explore Colombo, No 21 is the place for you. You can sample Eranga's cooked Sri Lanka fusion breakfasts and you are welcome to use the common spaces upstairs and down. Smoking is permitted in the verandah or garden. We expect guests to be vaccinated against COVID19 and to adhere strictly to COVID19 protocols. We regret we cannot host anti-vaxxers. The space An upstair room with attached bathroom overlooking the garden in a family home in a highly residential, central but quiet part of Colombo, Sri Lanka. The room has twin beds each with their own mosquito nets, and the ensuite bathroom has a hot water shower. You have tea and coffee and a refrigerator that you share with the family. Wireless internet is available, though it is advisable not to rely on it for heavy downloads. (The Commons nearby has a stronger wireless connection!) Breakfast is provided on request. For longer stays, laundry facilities are available twice a week on request. Secure parking is available within the premises. The room has ceiling fans but like the rest of the house there is no airconditioning. If you keep the windows open, and sleep under the mosquito net with the fan on, you will not be hot, except perhaps in the really hot months of April or August. An added fan can be provided if you want it. We can also arrange an airport pickup and drop on request. We are happy to host you for two nights or more. Last minute one night stays can also be accommodated, but we would require an additional payment of $5 per person that can be paid in LKR on arrival. Whether you are transiting through Colombo to somewhere else in Sri Lanka, or whether you are here to stay a few days in the city, Number 21 is somewhere you can return to relax. Pri is a working woman and spends a great deal of time in Kuala Lumpur. Eranga manages the house and will look after you really well. Asangi is Eranga's wife, and his sister Ayomie and her husband Ishan also reside on the premises and are also very helpful. The room is big and airy and child friendly and we can add a single mattress for you should you need it. Please request it in time. Need to warn you that the water pressure on the 1st floor is rather low - No 21 is a relatively old house (65 years in 2022), and while we are trying to remedy this, we have to be careful that the old pipes can withstand stronger pressure. There are restaurants within five to ten minutes walk from Number 21 with a choice of Sri Lankan meals and international cuisine. The Commons is a guest favourites and is literally round the corner. A vegan restaurant has opened two doors next to No 21. You can walk to the National Museum and the Lionel Wendt Theatre and Art Gallery and there are two cash points/ATMs on the two main roads. The Galle Road, Liberty Plaza, Independence Square, Vihara Maha Devi park are also walking distance, but if you'd rather not walk in hot and humid Colombo, Number 21 is close to several major bus routes and tuk tuks are also readily available. Guest access You access the upstair room via the main house. Guests can use the garden and verandah space if they do not mind sharing with family. We remind you to wear your mask at all times when you are outside the room and when you leave the premises and to sanitise your hands each time you enter. Our advice is also for you to wash your hands frequently. During your stay Pri is increasingly working in Kuala Lumpur so misses out on meeting guests. But she loves meeting new people, so will make time to see you if she is around. Pri has lived in Colombo much of her life, and can tell you lots about the city. Dhanapala is at home most of the time, is a fund of information especially about public transport, is happy to answer your questions and epitomises the best of Sri Lankan hospitality. Friends and family often (though not always) occupy other parts of the house - so its possible you will get a chance to chat to them... Other things to note Pri is not strict about check in and check out times unless of course there are back to back bookings and she needs to get the room ready for the next guest. When enforced, check out is 10:00 am and check-in is 2:00 pm If you are ordering breakfast, please let us know the night before. We thank you for not eating meals in your room. While we do understand that you are eager to sample Sri Lanka's amazing range of food and fruit, you also need to recognise that this is the tropics and that it will not be possible to keep the room clean and free from ants and insects if food is consumed and disposed of upstairs. Please feel free to use the facilities downstairs for preparing your fruit and/or takeaway meals (we do not provide cooking facilities) and please dispose of ALL FOOD WASTE in the downstair bins. Please ask Eranga to show you. Note that there are many affordable eating places around No 21.
