Meticulously restored to its former glory while being fitted with the most modern amenities, our house is one of the finest remaining examples of the particular Taisho era architecture of the 1920's. Located 12-15 mn by foot from Kyoto station, 350m west of the UNESCO world heritage site of Toji temple and 2,500 Sqft in size, a total of 6 guests can be accommodated in 4 bedrooms, complemented by 2 bathrooms, 2 WC, 2 Japanese gardens. The space Meticulously restored to its former glory while being fitted with modern amenities, our townhouse stands as a fine example of the distinctive Taisho-era architecture of the 1920s. This period greatly influenced Japanese culture in various fields, as the country embraced foreign influences. Japan looked primarily to Europe for inspiration, and in architecture, elements of Western design were harmoniously combined with traditional Japanese aesthetics. As a result, our house features two rooms with this particular “yokan” style. During the renovation, we were able to preserve most of its original features, allowing visitors to feel as though they were stepping back in time upon entering the premises. Although fully equipped for a modern lifestyle with IH stoves, a dishwasher, fridge, and a freezer, much of the kitchen has been kept in its original condition. It serves as a typical example of a kyomachiya (Kyoto townhouse) daitokoro (kitchen), complete with a sunken passageway, a well, and an antique tansu (traditional Japanese cabinetry) for you to enjoy. The house is complemented by two beautiful Japanese gardens, both recently renovated by an award-winning Kyoto gardener. The ground floor offers a luminous, spacious open area, from which you can enjoy views of the gardens. Modern features such as double-pane windows, insulation, floor heating on the first floor, and air conditioning ensure comfort throughout the seasons. The sleeping quarters are located on the second floor and are accessed via a typical Japanese corridor, much of which has been preserved in its original condition.
