Meticulously restored to its former glory while being fitted with the most modern amenities, our house is one of the finest remaining examples of the particular Taisho era architecture of the 1920's. Located 12-15 mn by foot from Kyoto station, 350m west of the UNESCO world heritage site of Toji temple and 3,000 Sqft in size, a total of 6 guests can be accommodated in 4 bedrooms, complemented by 2 bathrooms, 2 WC, 2 Japanese gardens. Meticulously restored to its former glory while being fitted with the most modern amenities, our townhouse is one fine remaining example of the particular Taisho era architecture of the 1920's. This time greatly influenced the Japanese character in various fields as the country embraced various foreign influences. Japan looked most to Europe for source of inspirations and in the field of architecture, elements of western architecture and traditional Japanese designs were harmoniously combined. As such our house has two rooms with this particular “yokan” style. When renovating the house, we were able to preserve mots of its original features with visitors very much feeling like steeping back in times when entering the premises. Although fully functional for a modern lifestyle with IH stoves, dish washer, fridge and freezer...much of the kitchen was kept in its original condition. As such it represents a typical example of a kyomachiya (Kyoto townhouse) daitokoro (kitchen) with its sunken passageway, a well and antique tansu (Japanese traditional cabinetry) for you to enjoy. The house is complemented by two beautiful Japanese gardens, both recently renovated by an award-winning Kyoto gardener. The ground floor offers a luminous, spacious open-space from every part of which you can enjoy our gardens. The sleeping quarters are on the second floor and are reached through a typical Japanese corridor, much of which was kept in its original condition. All in all the compound comprises of: One Western style bedrooms with a queen-size bed One Western style bedroom with two single size beds. One Japanese style bedroom with 2 futon sets One office space. Two bathrooms with shower space and bathtubs Two separate toilets One Dining kitchen area One living area Two courtyards with a traditional Japanese gardens. Guests will have exclusive of the property, one party per booking. We will welcome you at the property, give you some instructions and if you wish introduce you to our neighborhood and the city of Kyoto's sights. Kyoto station located 15 mn by foot from our house is the best hub to visit Kyoto and its sights located all around the city. From the station, our guests will also be able to take day trips to Nara, Ohara or Osaka. Our house comes with 2 complimentary bicycles our guests are free to use. Please note the following description of beddings : - 1 queen size western style bed - 2 single low beds - 2 futon sets that come as a combination of under-mattresses + futon/mattresses making them as comfortable as a normal bed, although may feel a bit firmer to some.
