The Steading is an historic stone building on a sheep grazing property at foothills of the Snowy Mts. Recently renovated for accommodation, it has been used as a film set. A unique experience to stay in a magnificent landscape in authentic farm buildings. The space There are piles of books to read, nearby stream to fish in, fabulous roads to cycle on, nearby Snowy River to swim in, an hours drive from Thredbo and a great place to totally get away from noise and people! You may sight a few kangaroos and wallabies, grazing sheep and perhaps an echidna and many birds. The Steading was built 120 years ago when the property was 20,000 acres in size and it was the centrepiece of the largest lucerne producing property in the southern hemisphere. The building was large enough for the teams of horses and men who were employed to cut the lucerne over the summer months when all the sheep were depastured in the nearby snowy mountains. The property has been the wellspring for much creative output with musicians, writers, artists and used as a filmset. It is a place to calmly detox and enjoy the sound of silence without distraction of tv. There is no wifi but those who have Telstra phones will be able to be online. It is for those who enjoy vast open raw landscapes, authentic vernacular architecture, the luxury of piles of great books, and endless starry nights... In the main part of the building there is a bedroom, loungeroom, kitchen, bathroom and hallway ... adjacent to the Steading is a two bedroom with ensuites and one large kitchen building 'The Quarters' . At the rear of the large stone building are two more bedrooms (one very large room with queen bed and another small room with twin beds) which can be used if you come with a group for cycling, walking, book clubbing or whatever.... High speed wifi throughout. Other things to note As this is a working property, it is absolutely essential that any gates remain closed and no entry into other farm outbuildings.
