Description
Our character garden studio was built in 1920 and has its own small view of Anzac Bay across the garden. It has a comfortable queen bed, chairs + table, and a small fridge, + your breakfast-making equipment (toaster, kettle, french press, etc), + simple cooking facilities. The bathroom is a short distance away in the main house (bathroom is shared with the house). We include breakfast in the rate, + free late checkouts up till 4pm are possible if we do not have a booking the following night. The space Our historic garden studio was built in a similar era to our 1920s house, which overlooks Anzac Bay - you can walk to the water in 2 minutes. It is simple, light and charming with a rustic feel and has its own private deck for you to sit on and enjoy the view. It is detached from the house. The bathroom is a short distance away in the main house – you have your own exclusive external entrance. The bed is a very comfortable queen-sized bed. We provide quality cotton sheets, pillowcases and bedding. We provide a complimentary breakfast, with a choice of cereal, fruit, yoghurt, toast and coffee or tea. There may also be fresh free-range eggs available if you are here in spring or early summer, and depending on the season, fruit from our trees. You can pick your own oranges from the tree to make orange juice - June - September is peak orange time although it does have a little fruit all year. You are also welcome to help yourself to herbs from the herb garden for your cooking: thyme, parsley, rosemary, bay leaves, garlic chives, oregano, basil, mint and lemongrass are all usually flourishing. We are also trying to get a chamomile patch going for home-grown chamomile tea! Guest access You don't need to hire a car if you're staying here as we're only 5 minutes from the bus stop which accesses most of the island (apart from the rural eastern end). However, if you choose to hire a car, we have street parking out the front of our house. During your stay We are very widely travelled (50 countries) and enjoy sharing our own NZ knowledge and chatting to people about their own travel and home country. It's up to you whether you want to interact with us, or prefer doing your own thing. We have 2 children - a 12yo and 7yo, so you'll need to be ok with having kids around, as they can't always be relied upon to be quiet all day long (This is where the studio's garden location comes in handy for you!). We also have a very friendly labrador x and two independent cats. We speak: excellent English, basic French, a bit of Swedish and a smattering of terrible Spanish and Italian. Other things to note Please note: some older guests have found the access to the separate bathroom challenging at night. With this in mind, if you are older/or need frequent nightly toilet stops, the studio may not be ideal for you. Waiheke households exist on rainwater only, so please conserve water while you are here. (Short showers and turn off taps while brushing teeth.) We try to be a globally, socially responsible household, and avoid plastic and use low-allergen and eco-friendly products as often as possible. We recycle and have a compost bin and would appreciate it if you could use these facilities too while you're here. Thanks! There is space in the studio for a portacot.
