Prestwick is a popular destination and has excellent opportunities for eating out at the plentiful restaurants and cafes. In particular, and not to be missed, the Cafe Mancini with its award winning ice cream and close proximity to the beach, again minutes from the front door of the house. Ayrshire is a superb area to explore both for its outstanding coastal landscape, stretching along the Clyde Coast and including sites such as National Trust for Scotland, Culzean Castle and beach, down steep steps but well worth the effort. Dumfries House is another stately home which should be on everyone's list to visit and, of course, Robert Burns Trails throughout the area provide a fascinating insight into past history, life and the poet himself. Whilst there is more than enough to do in the local area, it is also very easy to take a day trip to Glasgow or Edinburgh with the main line railway station close to the house, allowing day trips to the principal cities of Scotland to be easily undertaken without the need to take a car. Day trips to Arran can also be easily managed with ferries from Ardrossan which is just a short way along the coast.
