Chalet Narnia - A stunning self catered chalet in a peaceful and romantic part of the Chamonix valley near Les Houches. The chalet has fantastic views (see photos) down the valley to the Fiz mountains. Chalet Narnia has recently been renovated and now provides 4 spacious bedrooms set out over the 2 upper floors of this romantic, alpine chalet. Chalet Narnia is located on the edge of Vaudagne, a small, pretty village up in the forest about 2 km from Les Houches. The chalet is set in its own grounds and has magical views down into the Chamonix valley below and across to the Chaine de Fiz mountains. The proximity of Les Houches means that you have the benefit of being in your own world, but safe in the knowledge that the bright lights, shops, bars and restaurants are not too far away. The setting of the chalet is ideal for families with children, groups or a romantic chalet retreat. Chamonix town centre is only about 15 minutes drive away. The accommodation is set out on the first and second floors of the chalet and has been sympathetically refurbished to create a roomy and modern chalet whilst retaining the traditional alpine feel. The living area has a fantastic picture window and all the rooms on the first floor have access onto the balcony that runs around the chalet. The chalet has a stereo, a large flat screen smart TV with French and UK TV channels, Blueray player with large DVD collection and wireless fibre optic internet access. There is underfloor heating throughout the first floor and new energy efficient wood burner in the living area replacing the old open fire. The kitchen is fully equipped for 8 and there is a washing machine and dryer, iron and board etc. The chalet is surrounded by a large beautiful garden with a stream running through, a gas BBQ on the balcony, outdoor furniture and sun loungers. The chalet also has a large sun deck with a large 6 person hot tub with views down the valley under the stars and additional seating. Chalet Narnia really is a romantic alpine retreat. In the Chamonix valley, Les Houches is the best ski area for piste skiing. The other Chamonix valley areas, such as Les Grandes Montets can be better for off piste skiing. Grand Montets and Argentiere at the other end of the valley are only a 20-25 minute drive away giving you access to a huge range of mountains and trails. Le Prarion ski lift open winter and summer is 3 minutes drive from the chalet. Enjoy the beautiful mountain trails in summer straight from the chalet's front door. World class off piste skiing is only 20 minutes drive to Le Brevant/Flegere. The owners are on site in the ground floor apartment and are available to answer any questions you may have and deal with any problems that may arise. Your hosts will also clear the snow and maintain the hot tub during your stay except in summer when they are often away. Your privacy is assured. In winter the chalet and the forest and fields around it are all blanketed in snow. The drive up to the chalet from Les Houches and the Prarion is truly beautiful and with the old style street lamps is the reason the chalet is called Narnia. In summer the meadows and forest are transformed into a green paradise with alpine flowers and birds singing in the trees. You can sometimes spot eagles, woodpeckers, chamois, chevreuil and wild boar as well as alpine badgers and foxes. For mountain biking or walking/hiking you can access the trails that run throughout the Mont Blanc reserve straight from the chalet. There is a small train stop in Vaudagne before it reaches the next station of Les Houches. The stop is about 20 minutes walk from the chalet. There is off road parking at the chalet for up to 5 cars. WOOD BURNER INSTRUCTIONS: When you first light the wood burner please: 1. Chop up the logs into small lengths using the axe and chopping block provided by the wood pile. 2. Open all the vents. There are two, one on the top of the burner and one at the bottom. You can also leave the door slightly open for the first 5 - 10 minutes after ignition but remember to close it when the fire is going , don't leave unattended until the door is fully closed! 3. Use the wood wool to light the fire, DO NOT use paper or cardboard but only firelighters (provided). 4. If you use the wood burner correctly you should not have any black staining of the glass. DO NOT put large or round logs on at any time, always split the into smaller lengths. Thank you.
