The Cottage at Long Sands The space Swim, windsurf, and sunbathe all summer long at this York cottage - a family-friendly Maine escape with a private patio and an unbeatable location about a block from Long Sands Beach! The perfect retreat for a family or a group of couples, this quaint, two-story cottage situates you within walking distance of the sand and waves. Take sunrise walks along the shoreline toward the Nubble Light to the north, watch the boats come and go from York Harbor two miles south, and sample the darling eateries in the York Historic District one mile west. Greet the morning sun in the remodeled living space, where you'll find free WiFi, window air-conditioning units (in the living room and three bedrooms), and a country kitchen with double ovens to assist with breakfast. In the summer, grab the beach chairs and a towel from the washer/dryer on your way out the door, and return home for lunch on the gas grill (available seasonally), a board game on the patio, and a movie or two in the living room on the cable TV. THINGS TO KNOW The fireplace pictured is for decorative purposes only and does not function. It is not available for use. Guest access The front door features a deadbolt electronic lock. Enter your 10-digit code - the Schlage button will flash green when successful. Wait 3 seconds for the locking mechanism to fully disengage, then rotate the deadbolt away from the doorframe to unlock. To lock the door, press the Schlage button and turn the deadbolt toward the doorframe. The lock does not lock automatically. If the button flashes red, press Schlage to reset and try again. After three unsuccessful attempts, the system will lock you out for 30 seconds before you can try again. For emergencies only, there is a backup lockbox on the back door. Call for the code if you're locked out. Standard check-in is 4pm and checkout is 10am. During peak season (Memorial Day through Labor Day), early check-in is not available. Outside peak season, if an early check-in or late checkout (for a fee) is available, you'll receive an email or text message. Other things to note You'll find four beach chairs in the closet near the back door - perfect for your time at nearby Long Sands Beach. A gas grill is located on the small back patio. Please clean it after use. Backup propane is provided. The fireplace is decorative only and should not be used. Seasonal amenities including outdoor furniture and A/C are available from Memorial Day through September, weather dependent. Internet service can go intermittently off and on in the Southern Maine coastal area, especially during inclement weather. This is typically the internet provider and not the home itself. If you experience an outage, wait an hour before reporting - it usually resolves on its own. Rebooting the router and modem is also helpful. Power outages are not uncommon during severe weather and snowstorms in this area. Trip insurance is advisable if cancellation due to severe weather is a concern. Southern Maine's natural environment includes seasonal insects and pests such as mosquitoes, black flies, ticks, sand fleas, spiders, beetles, ants, no-see-ums, beach flies, and deer flies. The homeowner arranges monthly pest control to minimize their presence, though complete elimination is not guaranteed. Please bring bug spray for outdoor activities. Your reservation includes a Damage Waiver covering up to $3,000 of accidental damage to the property and its contents. If you accidentally break something, simply report it so a work order can be scheduled.
