Description
Molendini is a 17th Century House, built when the island was ruled by The Knights of St John. The house enjoys original features such as mill room, built in traditional locally cut stone, with all the modern comforts. It is located in the quiet hamlet of Birbuba in the village Gharb. This property is set on approx 400m2 of land with country & sea views and tal-Jordan light house off in the distance. It is ideally located for country walks, walks to cliffs, village square and to Wied il-Mielah. The space Molendini is just inside a large gated entrance. As you entre through the front door you find an arched corridor, with a stone feature fountain. Just off this corridor, you find the first double bedroom boasting traditional features, together with ensuite. At the end of the entryway, one comes to a bright courtyard. From here one can find a very large bedroom (sleeps 4 with room to spare) which was converted from a mill room, having original features; stone arches, traditional 'xorok' ceiling, and 'maxturi', with ensuite. A further double bedroom, with ensuite, with original features is also found at this level. Leaving the courtyard, one can move on to the large outdoor area, having a large pool (7m x 4,5m) with sun lounging area, external shower, stone fitted BBQ area, gas BBQ and dining amenities. Up the stairs from the courtyard, one finds an arched living room and dining room. Decorated reflecting the history of the property, here one finds a dining table seating 10 with carved stone base, functioning wood burning stove, sofas and TV area. Through a door in the room is a terrace overlooking the pool area with far reaching country views and view of the tal-Gordan light house. This is the perfect spot to watch the sunrise. Adjacent to this room, accessible also from the terrace overlooking the courtyard, is a traditional Gozo kitchen, enjoying all modern comforts (including dishwasher, microwave & coffee machine), while having original Maltese tile floor. At this level one also finds a further large master bedroom, having high ceilings, and traditional original features such as birthing room, 'xorok & kileb' ceilling and flag stone flooring. This bedroom enjoys a full corner bath ensuite. Being a historic property, in the traditional building method, the walls are approximately 1m thick. This keeps the property warm in winter and fresh in the summer. A spiral stair case takes you to the roof terraces, one to enjoy sunrise and the other for sunset. At this level, are 3 recently added double bedrooms, built in the traditional style, that are not included in the listing. Guest access Guest have access to the whole property, except the private store rooms and the bedrooms which are not in use. These are locked. Other things to note Air-conditioning is available in all of the bedrooms and in the dining and living room. These are pay peruse (coin operated with €1 or €2). Linen is provided; including bed linen and bathroom towels. For larger groups, with more than 10 guests, it is possible to rent up to 3 further double bedrooms with ensuites for an additional €100 per night per room.
