Stairs take you down to the lakeshore where a you will find a fire pit, seating, dock(during the summer season), with standing boards available for use. House trained dogs welcome. Tree covered road runs parallel to the south side of the lake nice for walks,biking, and scooting. Very dog friendly neighborhood. Eagles nest on the lake and are often sighted on the property. Owls nest on property on occasion. Loons can be heard nightly. Panfish The best fishing for bluegills and crappies occurs in the early spring or winter. During the early spring look to the emergent vegetation located in the southern half of the lake. Flu-flu jigs and a minnow will temp crappies in the early spring as will puddle jumpers. Sunfish can be caught using a plain hook with a piece of night crawler of panfish leech. The island located north of the landing is a prime place to begin your search for panfish. Bass/Northern Healthy populations of both Bass and Northern exist on South Long Lake. For Bass use jig and plastic or crankbaits.When using a jig and plastic, pitch it into the weeds and work it back in 10-14 feet of water. When casting cranks, make your casts parallel to the weeds; X-raps, Salmo or Berkley flicker shads are all good choices. DNR surveys show that there are good numbers of 15-plus inch largemouth in South Long Lake. For Northerns you can work these same weed edges with a live bait rig tipped with a sucker minnow or pitch a Northland Weed Weasel to the weed edge tipped with a minnow. Walleye DNR surveys show a healthy population of walleye in South Long and it is routinely stocked as well. Early in the spring a jig and shiner or fathead will do the trick or a live bait rig tipped with shiner will work. As the fish transition to typical summer locales a live bait rig tipped with a Redtail or Creek chub will be what you want to use.The deeper structure located Northwest of the Island are places to begin your search for walleye. The lake ID is 18013600 Quiet hours are from 10pm-7am Sunday thru Thursday and 12am-7am Friday/Saturday. 2 mile stretch of paved road parallels the lake and gives you a great view as you bike, walk, scoot...skip. Access to stores is a 8 mile trip by car. And going nowhere is awesome by watercraft! Sandy Public landing located within a mile west of house. Paved public landing directly across the water, by car about 5 miles - go west to highway 25 north take the first right after the bridge and follow the shoreline. Also a great spot to pick up/drop off anyone who has trouble with the stairs down to the lake for a boat ride. Laundry facilities include washer and dryer. Kitchen contains floating island, fridge, freezer, electric stove, Kcup maker, microwave, some basic pots/pans, dishes, utensils and stock of paper plates/bowls/plastic disposable utensils. Charcoal grill with gas starter available for use as well. No food or condiments are stocked.
