Our Farm Cottages features two bedrooms and two bathrooms. Main bedroom has a double bed, the second bedroom has 3 single beds, which 1 is bunk bed. Fully equipped kitchen, lounge area, fireplace, Deck with a wood-fire hot tub, braai facilities and Wi-Fi The space The cottage is fully set up for self-catering, with a well equipped kitchen and cozy living area with wooden floors. The living area in turn opens out onto a large wooden deck and braai area. This is the spot where you can either enjoy a good meal around the large wooden table or simply enjoy some of Oakhurst’s fine mountain air while getting stuck into a good book. The cottage has three bedrooms (one double and two twins) and sleeps up to 6 people. The double bedroom is self contained, while the two twin bedrooms are interleading, the second twin can only be accessed via the first twin bedroom. Each cottage has a central bathroom with shower. Garden Route winters can be cold, and a fire roaring in the kitchen’s wood-burning stove sets the perfect atmosphere for farm winters. Set up high in the mountains, Oakhurst Farm is one of the few remaining large working dairy farms along the Garden Route and covers a massive 640 hectares - of which 200 hectares are covered in pristine fynbos and indigenous forest. The farm is a working, commercial farm with a modern dairy, milking a herd of Jersey cows. Enjoy the soothing sounds of nature and fall asleep to the natural songs of frogs, nocturnal birds and crickets. Oakhurst allows you to connect back to nature and the simple things in life. Guest access Guests will have access to the farm, including our 6km forest trail suitable for hiking, trail running and mountain biking. Guests also have access to our farm shop stocked with unique treats, farm produce, a selection of readymade meals and local arts and crafts. We’re proud to offer our guests a real taste of the surrounding farming community with a collection of fresh produce for sale including Oakhurst’s famous Jersey milk, free range eggs and farm honey. We also stock locally sourced braai meat as well as firewood from our alien clearing program, matches and firelighters. While guests are able to walk to all activities available on the farm, a car is required to explore the greater Garden Route area. Each unit has 1 parking space available to park right outside your front door. Other things to note -There are steps leading down from the parking space to the front door. There are also steps leading off the patio onto the lawn. - Please keep the noise down after 8pm. We prefer to fall asleep to the soothing sounds of nature and our guests do too. Turn off your music and allow nature to provide the songs of frogs, nocturnal birds and crickets. You will have some of the best sleep of your life! -Recycling and reducing waste are part of our Oakhurst culture. We follow certain recycling and composting initiatives that guests are expected to follow when staying on our farm. Details are provided in your cottage. -Our water is piped and flows naturally for 5km along our property from the Outeniqua mountains. The water is clear but will turn slightly brown after the heavy rains due to the tannins from the forest bed. The water is only filtered by the river plants, gravel and rocks. No pumps, no filters, no chemical treatment. It tastes fresh and clean...and is safe for drinking. -The hot water is supplied through a gas geyser. -The cottage is set on a working dairy and cattle farm. You may experience unfamiliar sounds like tractors, harvesters and other machines in the fields or surrounding areas. It is all part of the farm lifestyle. Enhance your stay with a number of meal baskets and activities available on the farm. Please enquire directly for pricing. All meals need to be booked 24 hours in advance. -A portable wood-fired hot tub. -Breakfast, braai and DIY burger baskets (24 hours notice needed). -DIY potjie that comes with a potjie pot, all ingredients needed and a recipe. -Mountain bikes for hire from reception. -Fishing rods for hire. Our farm dam has a large amount of bass. Catch and release only. -Horse outrides among the pastures, forests and fields with Isaac our guide. Pony laps available for the kids. -Dairy tour with Farmer Jake. Experience an educational tour of the dairy and the sustainable efforts Jake is making in his dairy farm practice. You can see the cows being milked and learn the process of how milk goes from farm to shop. -Archery with Mike, a local world archery certified instructor. Advance notice needed. -Relaxing massages available in the privacy of your unit with our local masseuse Heidi. -Guided 3 hour hike with our local trained guide Nerise. She will guide you along the Half Collared Kingfisher trail to the Touw River Waterfall and rock pools. Half of the trail can be substituted for a canoe trip down the Touws River which involves roughly 40mins (3km) of paddling through indigenous forest and 40 mins (2.5km) of walking on a boardwalk to a waterfall. After taking in the scene at the waterfall, you return via the same way. Enquire about guide availability.
