The Hay Loft, Idyllic Rural Sussex Retreat

A charming, light and spacious cottage; The Hay Loft offers tranquility and calm. Part of a converted Victorian byre set beside a sleepy country lane on a 14th century farm. Cozy and warm in winter, gloriously sunny in summer! There are fabulous walks on the doorstep and it is perfect for exploring 1066 country with Hastings, Battle and Rye just a few miles away. Great local pubs, lovely villages, beautiful beaches and lots to do and see. TV, WiFi, Alexa and parking. Dogs are very welcome. The space Cool in the summer (terracotta roof tiles) and super cozy and toasty warm in the winter months. We have an eco/environmentally friendly biomass boiler and heating system serving the entire farm. Guests can choose just how warm they want to be with individual controls for each cottage. There is a small deck under a pergola just outside the cottage. It's very private and perfect for a quiet breakfast in the sun or use the barbecue (provided) for alfresco dining. Free parking on the farm yard close to the cottage. Situated in a quiet location between the villages of Sedlescombe and Westfield (around 1.5 miles either way) both with lovely pubs serving great food and beer! Whilst the cottage is off the beaten track we have lots of choice for beaches or country walks, activities, country houses and gardens or shopping (inc. mainstream, antique, quirky, plus local produce) in the area. For nature lovers there is an abundance of wildlife with badgers, foxes, fallow and roe deer as well as buzzards, a heron, dragonflies and the not so wild farmyard chickens! We also have horses on the farm. Guest access Sole, private use of an enclosed deck area just outside the cottage kitchen with a table and chairs under a pergola. There is a barbecue, a complimentary bag of charcoal and bbq tools. There are also a few herbs and tomato plants grown in planters alongside flowers for guests to use during their stay (if in season). There are other areas on the farm with picnic benches for the use of guests too. PLEASE NOTE *There is a pond (very pretty) near the cottage - small children will need supervision at all times! *The ground floor bedroom has an optional layout and can be used as either a twin bedroom or a superking double bedroom. Please let me know when booking how you would prefer it laid out during your stay? *The mezzanine double bedroom is reached via a loft ladder and overlooks the sitting room area, it is not a full height room (please see photos for visual description). Small children and people with mobility issues may be better placed in the ground floor bedroom. There is a large double wardrobe on the ground floor for guests using this room. Other things to note PLEASE NOTE *There is a pond (very pretty) near the cottage - small children will need supervision at all times! *The ground floor bedroom has incredibly comfortable zip link mattresses/beds giving guests the option of having it as either a twin room OR a double (superking) room.
